Leather upgrade for my C5 and it's gone all grumpy - help please

Sorry Iain - I was sure I had seen a later model mentioned so you are correct in that no Lexia required, plug and play.
With any luck and no actual airbag fault then the fault should clear after a few (five, IIRC) trips.

Errr, no. You just plug them in, fit the fuses and that's the electric seats done, exactly as per my profile thread. The bsi etc. know nothing about electric seats.

As Myglaren says - maybe not on your model - but definately on the X7 as I have been through the options myself and they are there to enable or disable.

Did you put the ignition switch on at any time while you had either/both seat airbags disconnected? If so, it would pick up an open circuit fault, which stays logged until the fault codes are cleared (even if it now sees the airbags as ok). I know that from my recent shenanigans with the pre-tensioners on mine.

I don't know if that would continue to bring up an airbag fault message, or if it would then ignore it after a while, though...

I didn't put the ignition on, I was being careful about airbags at that point. Though the more swaps I have to do, the more gung-ho I become about plugging and unplugging them

When I refitted the original seat (with original airbag) the fault message went away and it's now happy again. Ho hum. I'm off to buy a maxi fuse and install diagbox.

As Myglaren says - maybe not on your model - but on the X7 : 'Presence of heated seats', 'Driver's seat memorisation control unit' 'Passenger's seat position memorisation control unit option', 'Driving position memorisation option', 'sensor for detection of presence of front passenger' etc., so thought it was worth a mention as I have been through the options myself and they are there to enable or disable.

Progress! Finally got a bit of time and (gasp) some sun today, so I swapped the seats.

I ended up swapping the airbags out of the old seats. The car wasn't happy with either of the new ones - no idea why. But as Stickyfinger had said, it's only two bolts and a bit of fiddling with the loom.

Stickyfinger - have you had the heaters working in these? They don't seem to come on at the moment (though I have only tested them without sitting on them, so I don't know if they have a sensor so they don't heat up unless a person is on the seat...?

I've installed the 80A maxi fuse at position 5 in the underbonnet fuse box, and there are 30a fuses in locations 37-40 in the glovebox fuse box which should mean that everything works. All the electric adjustment is working fine

As said, never did wire up the heaters......do you get power to the loom plug ?
......can you feed them from a battery to test ?

I DO NOT KNOW what the voltage is but I THINK that is what the seat adjustment wheel does.

I must admit I'm a bit puzzled by the seat electrics. IIRC there was one connector with three pins in (passenger side) and four pins (driver side) - this is the airbag connector and also has an extra line in the driver side for the seatbelt sensor.

Then the other one is just a big blue one, which I think has one fat cable in and a load of smaller ones. That doesn't feel like heater control... probably one fat supply and then smaller earth paths for the various motors. Unless I suppose the fat supply feeds the heater controller and they earth through the seat rails?! Can't imagine that's the case.

Anyhoo, they are lovely and comfy and go backwards and forwards and up and down, so I'm happy for now When I sort out my Lexia I'll have a further poke around.

I did Somerset to Aberdeen with a 82 year old mother (it was hell)......non stop and both of use got out feeling fine, the best seats I have ever had.

Yup, I've got about 400 miles to do in the next day or so (Bristol - Kidderminster - Manchester and then back again) so I am going to appreciate them greatly!

I think you will find the 'Maxi' fuse needs to be fitted to the underside of the engine compartment fuse box.
