I often wonder what a C1 would be like with the Charade Turbo engine...

Maybe a project one day...

You've got to admit it's a nice thought though Davie!!! I'd love it...

Shame really that a hot version of the C1/107 never reached production although there was a C1 prototype.. I saw it in the Conservatoire when Team WFA visited back in April...

It would be fantastic Jim. I think there is a company who will take your car and turbo it, along with brakes suspension and wheels to cope with it. Cost you as much as the car did though!

Let's not forget Suzuki who are no stranger to three pots. The 657cc turbo unit in the Cappuccino was detuned to 65bhp for the home market. We reckon the one I had which was running a 2.5" exhaust and custom ecu firmware (actually written by the previous owner) was outputting around 90-100bhp. It went like a little rocket, even though there was a bit of turbo lag and the engine really didn't come on song until around 5000rpm - at that point though it shot off towards the horizon and 10,000rpm rev limiter. It was electronically limited to 85mph, but you hit that like a brick wall - on far too many occasions without meaning to!

First three cylinder engine I think I encountered, and I reckon still the nicest sounding one was in a late 80s Subaru Justy. Really did a proper flat six impression that one.

Seem to recall reading back when I first got my 107 that some people had been playing around successfully with electric superchargers, obviously a non-starter on big engines but apparently possible on this due to the small displacement. Not sure how reliable the source was though!

It was on the C1OC that I saw the turbo one when I had my first 107 a few years ago. I'll have to have a search on there to see if I can find it

I had a friend with a Daihatsu Charade, if I remember correctly the head cracked and he had to scrap it - and he was a motor mechanic!

I know, my youngest daughter as a Nissan Pixo which is a Suzuki Alto in disguise. It has a 3 pot but....

It's not as refined or as lively as the Toyota/Daihatsu unit and sounds a lot coarser. Having said that though, it goes well enough and has proved very reliable...
