Re: stripped threads- what are my options?
I have once lost a wheel, off a transit minibus, fortunately just me in it, and at a slow speed in the country. The stub axle on drivers side front broke. No warning, a bang and I saw the wheel rolling into a field!

Re: stripped threads- what are my options?
would a re-tap with a higher m size not be as strong as a heli-coil as the original threads are formed in this way, Im not doubting anyone here just questioning the theory.I obviously agree replace if at all possible i meant a re-tap as a temporary measure until replacements can be aquired i re-iterate my questions are literally for learning reasons only not to prove anyone wrong safety has got to be the overriding concern.

Re: stripped threads- what are my options?
If i were to tap to a larger size i'd do all 8 on the front as having mismatched sizes makes more work when the wheel needs to go back on :-/

Scrap the hub, used is fine, its a lump of steel, if it was unobtainable then puddle weld, grind flush,re drill and tap a whole new thread.

I've no experience of helicoils - but wouldn't even think about them for this application.
