Re: solid flywheel
i was hoping to avoid the expense of the conversion kit but i have ruled all other ideas out at this stage so ill have to go the conversion route.

Re: solid flywheel
I have been reading this with interest as I have been discussing changing my old 98 Xud xantia for a 2000 110 Hdi
could the service intervals be affected by changing the flywheels as the Hdi has a service interval longer than the non Hdi
I'm wondering if the torque between the road, driveshaft's and engine is somehow dampened by the DMF in later models.
this tightens the cambelt as the engine rocks forward as the drive is taken up and puts a lot of strain on the belts when climbing steep hills. a stretched serpentine belt will stay on running along a flat surface but as soon as you climb a steep slope the tension increases so much that it will come off. I was wondering if the heavy flywheel somehow served to dampen the wear on the timing and serpentine belts? a service difference of 30K on a 1.9td cambelt to 100K on an Hdi of similar engine size does make me wonder. perhaps messing with the design of the engine could make it end up throwing a cambelt way to soon doing irreparable engine damage.

Re: solid flywheel
No DMF on a Xantia HDi.... Less pulsing on an HDI belt as the pump does not spike the pressure at each injection. No idea whether that has any bearing on life or not. 1.6 Hdi is 10 years / 150k miles. If you dare...!

Re: solid flywheel
As others have fitted a solid conversion on early C5, can I get a look to see if mine has been converted?
It supposedly had a new clutch 3 yrs ago. If that is the case then it may have a solid flywheel. Anything to be seen through an inspection cover somewhere?

Re: solid flywheel
Sorry but simply not true - the belts and engine work as a unit, independent of the engine mounts so they move togetherfalling-out-with-my-car wrote:I have been reading this with interest as I have been discussing changing my old 98 Xud xantia for a 2000 110 Hdi

Re: solid flywheel
Give the new clutch/SMF a while to bed in, and smooth out, before making a judgement.

Re: solid flywheel
i've put about 5000 miles on it since the conversion that's why i'm posting now so happy enough to recommend as an option.
