As far as I have progressed, all is lubricated and ready to be re-mounted. Thanks again for all the help/comments.

The pipe was difficult to remove and I have obviously made it worse. Problem is there is hardly any room to work, and although I have loosened the other end into the K connector with a view to straightening it out on the bench, it is so tight in the connector, which floats around anyway, that I am concerned that that end will wind up the same. Hence thinking of a replacement.
