If the C5 is anything like the 407 then dashboard removal is easier than the Xantia but the heater matrix itself is trickier as the whole heater box needs to be removed and that means depressurising the aircon.

Apart from that, not a bad job...

Sorry been helping my elderly parents over the weekend, mother just out of hospital after an op, all went well.

What a lot of interest this has generated

Chris, you are correct I've to do this outside but i do have the luxury of a garage to store the parts. I need to get this done asap but will gladly pop up to help your matirx change during the spring. All I need to know is roughly when to check what shift i am. As Jim says it is easier with 2 pairs of hands. We may be able to help Daviemac out as well

I've popped some stop leak in for the moment.. hopefully that may solve the problem.. it must be a ver small hole as I'm not losing any coolant and the carpet is sticky .. not soaking.
Must be a thing with mothers and hospital this month!! My mum was there 2 weeks ago and picking my M-I-L up to take her home tomorrow.
As for helping Davie.. With his back I think he'll need all the help he can get.. once the snows are over the canoe will be out and the gaage will be (almost) empty.

That's why I have a halfords heat/massage cover on my drivers seat. It really helps. My feet get a bit cold so thick socks. It's not nearly so bad as the yellow courtesy bus at Aberdeen airport that I used to drive. It got no heat at all to the drivers compartment and vert little to the passengers despite constant complaints Apcoa would not do anything about it. Their answer was wear mort clothes. It's the only vehicle I have ever driven freezing the inside of the windows, and driving with two outdoor jackets hat scarf and gloves on and so constricted by clothes I thought it was dangerous to drive

Only real way to dry the carpet and foam is to remove them all and dry them off in a warm place. I recommend you do this as part of the matrix job. They'll never dry otherwise. ..

It does take ages. I last dried out carpets on my upstairs landing and even there in the warm it took three weeks...

If the matrix is leaking, there is a spigot under the dash on the passenger side, just away from the centre console, which will be wet. All 3 of mine leaked, all 3 were Forted, none were changed. The last one ran 80k with sealer in, and never leaked a drop after it was 'sealed'.

I did my Matrix in the spring, what fun none of the sealers worked, I only needed an extra pair of hands for the big lift getting the dash out and back in, the tweeters have never recovered but otherwise a straightforward PITA, the worst thing was the misting, when I got in there I found a re-cored matrix so I was not the first.

I experienced a (possibly) re-manufactured matrix once and it was too long. It split the heater box and broket it in an attempt to make it sit home.

I had to replace the whole heater box and that was a right fur-lined ocean-going PITA
