I bought a 2006 C5 V6 a month ago, same engine as this post... and the exact same symptoms, one bank oscillates between 35 and 37 and the other is fixed at 35.

Besides being low on low end power, the car drives fine and gets decent fuel mileage.

Permanent ode P1335, no check engine light.

I will try this weekend to diagnose further... I hope its not a broken cam

I have a similar problem with the 3.0v6 XFV engine in a 2008 Citroen C5.

The error is P1335 and at idle the engine runs unevenly, as if it were running on 5 cylinders. The variable valve timing wheels show an angle of 36 degrees and do not move. What could be the cause?

It runs ok... so I still drive it like it is.

In my case the problem is that the engine runs unevenly and there is this error P1335 and the variable valve timing does not work because it shows 36 degrees all the time.

You seem to have two problems.

As far as I know, P1335 is set when the computer cannot get accurate camshaft position from both intake cams to agree on startup. It disables variable timing and you get some low end power loss but its does not run unevenly.

My guess is that one of the cams jumped a tooth on the belt or one of the variable sprockets is broken so you are out of time.... and P1335 is just collateral damage.

Hello friends,

I have got error code P1335 too.
I replaced both camshaft sensors. I checked all wiring and it is ok.
Voltage on sensors is OK. Solenoids are also OK.
I was checking it in diagbox and angles on camshafts are strange. One is locked at 35 and second is fluctuating around 32-36. Also rpm shows strange numbers.
I am adding video...
Could it be cause by wrong timing or camshaft gears?

I sold this car some time ago.... and never could fix this issue.

Timing was spot on.

Only thing bad were the timing variators that rattle on startup.

I suspect thats when the code gets set.

I have rattle on start up since i bought the car almost 7 years ago. But the code P1335 shows up only now. And the rattle happens only when engine is cold or if car stays longer. Therefore i assumed this are the small hydro things between valves and valves tappet. But I think, there is a little bit power loss during lower torque. I need to check camshafts and timing. Then I can start to spend money for new parts

I need to fix position of camshafts and crankshaft before i replace timing belt. For this I am going to use some drills or screw. But what shout be the width (diametr) of the drill? 8 or 10 mm? Thank you.

Is the top line on that diagbox screen, the rpm? If so then as you say, that's very odd.

Cambelt change info on this engine isn't easy to come across. The basic mechanics handbook does cover the tightening torques, camshaft position setting etc and lists the official special tools needed (see page numbered 74/actual page 77 of the pdf).
By looking the tools up you might be able to find out/match the diameters?

So, Today I took off timing belt and all pulleys for inspection. They are little bit rusty but I cannot feel anything wrong with them. Also all pins (8mm drills fits ) fitted perfectly, so I think timing was good. I checked invoices and pulleys are 8 years old (SKF). Belt approx 4 years old Continental... So I dont think issue is with timing of the engine.
Then I took off covers of intake cams. Could you anybody please advise, if the teeth of the camshafts are placed correctly according the puctures? I tried to move them by finger and it seems they are solid with camshaft.
Also I tried to took off fixing pins from intake camshafts and intake gears are fixed to camshaft, so I would say that also hydraulic camshaft gears are ok...So I am clueless. Last think I can do is replacing of crankshaft sensor...

Unfortunatelly there is no progress



I notice some smell sometimes from engine. I was thinking it goes from timing belt.

Therefore I changed timing belt with all pulleys and waterpump As it was 8 years old and 80k km.

I replaced both sensors of camshafts, also senor of crankshaft.

I checked camshafts positions and they are ok.

Pulleys of VVT(phasers) camshafts was ok. I hold camshaft in one position and tried to turn with pulley and it was locked in one position(according the youtube that means it is ok)

Therefore i really dont know what to do next. I will try to order solenoids from AliExpress, because of the price. Just to replace them and check, if error code will disappear. If yes, I will buy original.

Cheap pattern parts might not prove anything - they themselves might well be faulty.
Are the solenoids the same? In which case you could swap the existing ones and see if the fault changes/transfers from one to the other? That would prove one of the solenoids is defective.
