Well after a great holiday I contacted the aforementioned garage in Edinburgh (thanks miked
). The chap there explained the process, was very honest about their ability to remove the injectors without damaging them and all the costs and pitfalls involved.
Well, I got the nod yesterday to say that the car is fixed!!
Two injectors had stretched so had to be replaced 
, but he's done the water pump at cost and an oil change as well. Ok it's not a cheap repair but neither is supply and fit of a recon or new engine and it's certainly cheaper than scrapping and replacing the car!Cant recommend or promote on here but as you can tell i'm very happy.
