Perhaps this is the reason why some reports say that fuel consumption worsens the more cruise is used. I certainly notice the apparent better acceleration when the cruise control is getting back up to the set speed, such as after braking and then re-engaging the cruise control. The same bits were available on the 2.5 XM from its start of production! a good few years before the HDi came along.
Try having the speed set at 60-70 Paul and engage resume at about 30-40.... its pretty dam sharp thats for sure as my bosch 2.5 seems to be able to build boost quicker when using cruise to build backup than the accelerator... i guess its the softer mapping for the TPS where as the ECU and cruise function just sense they are way off where they have been set and dump fuel in as quickly as possible without regard for smoothness.
