Mine 1.9td is around 30 pound a week for 200 miles 40 miles aday.

You need an HDi. Even my C5 only costs me £25 for 5 days of that journey. I've got 55mpg out of it driving sensibly.

Not sure Peter, if Citroen sorted the head gasket issues by the time the 2,1 got to the Xantia.

Ive a feeling they had switched to Laminated gaskets by then... but I could be wrong though.

You could well be right Paul, my experience of 2.1s has only been with the XM.

Its possible but its no more likely to than a 1.9, they blow gaskets as well at about the same mileage. As Pauls says, if they used laminated steel gaskets on them they could well last longer. The Hdi engine uses the laminated gasket and I have one that has done 216,000 miles without needing a replacement.

Ive got a HDi with 261k on original gasket and no leaks... Once any XUD got a laminated gasket they never went again.
