Re: HDi 2.0 8V wont start when cold
came home with the company vauxhell.. thought I would try my car again for a laugh.. the engine has probably turned over 150 times since it last ran.. still sounds fine to my ear, fast enough.. after 30 turns or so it ran... !
I am using it all eve as normal.. the antipollution came on soon after, but its not limping.. fast and smooth as ever.,,
no idea really., air temp after work was about 11C...
New batt arrives tomorrow but don't want to fit if not needed..

Re: HDi 2.0 8V wont start when cold
WHAT is going on lol..
have had this great car for 15 months and about 25,000 miles.. oil and filter change is all I have done.. its been great ..best car ever ..
now this cold starting issue yesterday, and tonight it runs again, drove 5 or 10 miles and the bottom pulley falls apart in some village... took the pulley from the road under the car, grabbed the belt and then a dark and difficult twisty journey home with only candles ahead...
I thought the xant was heavy without PS, C5 is worse..., home now but cant quite believe my changes of luck,,
erm..,
The Bottom pulley was changed at 100K according to the history.. 35K more doesn't seem amazing..
Is it a side of road job through the wheelarch anyone? .. and is the pully one big bolt or some small ones? guessing one bolt.
What is most amazing is that the car got 4 of us home safely from 2000 of France 2 days ago,,,,

Re: HDi 2.0 8V wont start when cold
well I ordered another crank pulley.. put reg into ECP and even checked the RPO code and think I ordered the right part but.

a clear difference in offset
amonst other things,..,
Just Rang ECP back and they agree that I have the right part.. ..

No, that's not the right one, John - you need the big flat bit at the back to hold the cam belt on, the one on right will not do it. Looks like ECP have a mis-labelled part there.... Try AEP in Glasgow - the one I got from them was an OE one, and only a couple of quid more than ECP wanted (or might even have been less).

Re: HDi 2.0 8V wont start when cold
thanks Richard.
I rang my local ECP back at 530 last night.. and emailed them the pic.. Chap went off to the stores, rang me back and confirmed the wrong part was in the right box...
then something happened that was a first.. he drove it to my house at 7pm
will go home during lunch and start the refit
going back to the origin of this thread
mild weekendfor me to move house, so the car will of course start and run ok

Apologies if what I am suggesting is completely wrong but just in case it works for you I will suggest it, could it be the keyfob battery? (immobiliser).... when the battery is low it will open car doors, then engine will turn over as normal but not fire, just wondering if after opening doors it takes a while for your keyfob battery to recover hence eventual starting, plus batteries are affected by temp..colder in morning / warm in pocket etc, just a thought and good luck.

thanks Jeff.. interesting idea ..only issue is I have never had a fob
I will try and get the car to a lexia somewhere soon as I can.. the weekend is mild, car should be fine...
I do wonder about the HP pump.... but it's just idle speculations at moment,,

I can say 100% it wasn't this in my case as I never lock my car when it's at home... so no need to operate the fob.Jeff wrote:Apologies if what I am suggesting is completely wrong but just in case it works for you I will suggest it, could it be the keyfob battery? changing crank pulley HDi
pulley fitted,, car started fine..
I did it up as tight as I could with the tools I had.. and some threadlock..
the tensioner has two places to detension the belt.. I needed to second hole to insert the locking tool in, the first wouldn't allow belt on at all.,
wheelarch back on tonight, and I can use car again
until its cold grr brr

If your Netbook is running 32-bit Windows 7, as mine is, Lexia will work fine. You're as well off downloading the 7.02 Diagbox image from Simon's links, then using that. Worked first time with mine. Drop me a PM if you need any more instructions..
