Missed this reply... yeah I went in fully expecting to need to buy bulbs, and thinking "what if I break the new ones trying to get the plastic off?"

Wonder if they are made weak deliberately, so you have to buy the whole thing to replace it (properly)?

well, I got the unit out and it was broken and had clearly been glued before. My local dealer is 9 miles away so I glued it again,left it half hour and put it all back and, amazingly, it has all clicked back into place.....I may still buy a couple at the price they are,but for now at least, all bulbs now replaced....have to say, did one on the mrs number plate light at same time on her 03 scenic and bulb much easier to get at.............still,got there in the end........
