You defeanatly wont get a 6 speeder in there! Certainly not if its a physically bigger box.. The 5 speed HDi 110 box only just fits as it is...

How times have changed, my C5 will do 60 mpg :?

Yea, when my customer had his c5 he had around 53mpg... you must do 40mpg every where peter.. :-D :-D

the bloody thing was going wrong sooooo often he went back to a Xantia Mk.1 TD... Ive not seen him now for nearly two months, where the C5 was every two weeks... Its not helped its image with either me or himself..

What about using ram air from a bonnet air scoop? Or even water/meth injection. used to work on the old turbines!!!

Shame about the 6 speed box.. I wonder if you could use the taller 6th gear to replace the standard 5th on the Xantia?

No comments about the tuned exhaust? surely that would produce a few percent bhp boost?

I cant see any thing wrong with an exaust as long as you can get a set of extractors to start things off.

I'm very well aware of the merits of the 2.0 HDI having driven a lot of miles in a high mileage one in a 406.
It could however do with a bit more shove and the Xantia chassis is more than up to it, being a much better handling and balanced car than the 406.

Why? A question always worth asking...
When dragging a 1400Kg loaded car trailer and 120 litres of Rothaus Pils up an Autobahn gradient and needing full throttle 4th gear for 10Km to sustain 60mph it could do with a bit more grunt.

The remap option is certainly high on the list of possibilities. Interested in Paul's tuning boxes which plug in to the injector signal wires too. Maybe he could enlighten us as to the make?

But being of an engineering pursuasion and having modified just about evrything I have ever driven or ridden, I am looking at the wider possibilities.

On my 406, I disabled the EGR and knocked the cat out. Made it noticeably more responsive when going from closed throttle overrun to opening the throttle (of course I mean accelerator pedal position). My Xant will get similar treatment.

I'm really curious about the 2.2 bottom end. If the block is of the same layout, there is every chance I could run my 8v head on it and maybe the turbo off the 2.2. Then getting it mapped would in theory deliver more power than mapping a 2.0

The other question is whether the 2.2 would drop straight in and then electrically hook up to the 2.0 ECU or the 2.0 ECU from a very early C5 "talk" to teh vehicle electrics on my late Xantia. Then I've got a 136 baseline which could be mapped to 170-180hp.
The 2.2 is not a complete disaster area of an engine. There are lots of good engines which have the odd niggle.

These things have to be considered. They can be worked out if there is a suitable pile of mechanical bits to play with. The electronics slightly harder to decipher but not impossible. Maybe I won't get round to all this as I have many other car projects on the go but I'm certainly considering possibilities.

Another thing about the Xant is the 206 60 15 tyres are about 3% smaller circ than the 196 65 15 on the 406. A ML5T from an early 2.2 C5 would redress this, having a 3% longer final drive. I have no intention of putting 196/65s on the Xant.

What about the fabled alloy wheels which look like steelies? They are being snapped up by the 306 GTi fraternity as they weigh only 4.7 kg vs 7.5Kg for the Steely of the same dimensions - 6J x 15 ET18. Perfect for a Xant, freeing up dead weight and rotating mass = better acceleration and fuel economy.
Anyone braeking an early C5 or have a set cluttering up their garage? :-)

Anyway that's all for now. I'll keep you posted as this (if this) develops. Doesn't the idea of a Xantia estate which pulls like a train with circa 170 bhp have just a littel appeal to some of you?

6speedmanual, the make of tuning box is PSI... HERE IS a simmilar one....

I would either remap your 2.0HDi 110 Xantia or geta tuning box. I prefer remaps but the tuning box can be a cheaper solution, though I gather they vary on their design. Some just overfuel, etc.

If that is not enough, I would consider another car, as significant gains will be hard to achieve and at risks to longevity.

As for changing the engine, I wouldn't, its a lot of hassle when there are other ways around things.

I've averaged over 50mpg in my C5 in my ownership. Thats not really hanging about but a lot of high speed motorway miles. Im impressed, if I drive with economy in mind 60mpg is possible. As it is with my 2.0HDi 110 Xantia, they are very similar for eocnomy but the C5 is far more lively.

I don't know where that leaves the C5 then, my 406 handles much better than either of my C5s its just that the suspension is to hard.

I think the 2.2 is a very good engine to drive and mine has been 100% reliable its just the fuel consumption tha puts me off, mine is averaging around 40 mpg but the 2.0L is giving me 50 mpg.

I am selling my 2.2 estate complete with tuning box if anyone is interested.

Realizing this is an old thread, but have perhaps foolishly dipped my toes back into Xantia land with a 2.0 HDi manual (<150,000km on the clock), so looking at a remap from hdi-tuning.co.uk. Download the ECU file from the OBD, email it, receive it back tweaked as desired and upload, could certainly make things a bit more fun. Worth getting a bigger intercooler by the sounds of things, and ideally a better exhaust system.

Dunno if there's any life left in this thread to comment on... :-D

Not sure you can get a bigger intercooler.. The xantia one is the same size as the water radiator and ait goes in on the right side and out on the left.. Certainly bigger then post 2001 set-up where a much smaller cooler is mounted beside a smaller rad..

I know someone who has had a mild map taking his xantia to 143bhp and says its super..

I had my 2.2 mk1 c5 remapped by hdi tuning to their "stage 2" (mpps ebay clone to download and upload to car over obd) and its been great so I can recommend their service. Fuel economy is about the same (maybe very very slightly better - think 0.5l/100km better) but the horrible lazy throttle response of the stock 2.2 became much better and the power is great even in the heavy break. It also seems to run somewhat quieter from what I remember.

Cheers to citroenxm and ml11ML. Yes I have received the MPPS V16 from ebay, and set up a winXP32bit virtual machine on my linux laptop to run the software and connect the device to, so that side of it is working, haven't connected to the car yet. Been measuring up for possible intercooler sizes, may go to slimline fan's, which may allow space for a 600x300x65mm intercooler. In theory this stage 2 remap should take things from 80kw to 112kw, and 250nm to 360nm... which should be fun... :-)

Other planned tweaks:
- Get the nice tint have had on another vehicle (blocks out all the UV so good for the interior and keeps the cabin cooler in the summer heat.
- Get my alloys off previous Xantia, look nice on the 215/45 R17's and loads more grip for these tight winding roads.
- Get the spoiler off my previous car also, and the stereo.
