An SM!
At the risk of turning myself into a pariah, I wouldn't have an SM given. Awful looking things.

Yes, me too. I'm not really a DS fan either if I'm honest. I much prefer CXs. I'd love a CX Safari Estate DTR 2.

Ok Mike.. never heard SM's described as " Awful looking things" but each to their own!
I first saw one in the early 70's at Sleemans Motors in Oldbury...
It was so impressive, like a spaceship to an 11 year old.
I have been in one a few years ago in France, despite it having been through a decidedly dodgy restoration it was still hugely impressive if a little noisy.

 Well, I just like the rare factor of a DS Safari, its that bit different. I wouldn't say no to a saloon though, hmm, I think it would have to be in gleaming white with red cloth interior, fantastic!

I am quite into estates though, very useful vehicles which often look better than the saloon equivalent. We have quite a fleet at the moment, XM Estate, Xantia Estate and a C5II Estate

As for a CX Safari, I would love that very nicely restored brown one which was recently featured in the Citroenian and was at the NEC on the CCC classic car stand a year or two back. Lovely car, the 'flying cigar' 8-)

My uncle had a 1967 DS Safari in the mid 70's ...
It was a bit of a wreck when he bought it,he did the bodywork
and my dad did all the welding.
I don't mind an estate myself :-D
I had a CX estate about 25 yrs ago... 81 on a W plate, Petrol C- matic box... Lovely!
And a Datsun 180B, Renault 21...

I'm suprised this natter hasn't been moved to somewhere
more appropriate than the Activa Section!

Just looks like normal FCF topic-drift to me. Nope, it won't be moved Chris. If the mods moved every thread to an area reserved for off-topic natters then every thread on the whole forum would be there :-D

Back on-topic for a moment, yes, I've noted on almost every car I've owned in recent years how much perkier they are in the cold air - especially diesels... Get one of those lovely clear frosty mornings and they love it!

Off-topic again. I'd love an SM. It's an aspirational car for me and maybe one day. It's a funny car. It looks rubbish in pictures but in the metal it's just gorgeous.

I've started going backwards toward it. Xantia to XM so maybe CX next and then an SM perhaps...

I expect that will never happen but another I'd love to own one day is a GS.

And it goes without saying I'd love a DS to be in the stable too. A really early one, preferably a Slough-built one....

An Ami 6 estate, you should have kept that! Id like an Ami 6, but a saloon 8-)

As for an SM< I don't think they are ugly, I don't think they are one of the best looking cars but they are nice. I would like a go in on and to see how it performs, as 180 or so horses is not a lot by todays standards.

I know! Just think how many 194BHP V6 Xantias you could buy for the price of one SM :-D

Somewhere around, there is an SM with an XM 24v motor in it. I bet it's a sight more reliable than that Italian crap it had in originally

All of them very possibly

Oh yes. A car you just want to pick up and hug :-D I love the frowning, determined expression they have when you look at them head-on "I'm only a little car but I'm going to do it, I really am. I can be a big car, yes I can. Just you watch me!"

Thanks Jim...
After the very serious T 25 forums I forget just how laid back th
is forum is !
I would have definitely had a yellow card by now!
Yes the SM .... A tour de force ....
And at the top of my wants list bar non.
I didn't want to sell the Ami but i had lost my storage
and it was being neglected...
It was in lovely nick... Got just over 2k for it,I notice there are
2 Ami saloons on EBay, biddings up to 2k... One for restoration and one for spares !!!

Quite right Jim, probably all of the UK V6 Xantias  Think of the power you would have if you strapped them all together!

I will try my best not to let my dad know this, he will be on ebay bidding before he has even remembered he can't use ebay!

Id love an Ami 6 and they are real bargains. When I think what we paid for our 2cv Beachcomber last year (typically prices have since fell dramatially), we could have had one of the best Ami 6s around. I know what I would prefer, I can't wait to see the back of this 2cv, nor can I remember when it was last driven

Its about 20 years ago since I was last in an Ami 6 (god, that makes me feel old, I was 5 ...). A French house we rented in France had one tucked up in the garage and since my aprents knew its owners it was ours for the use. Funnily enough that exact Ami 6 saloon has found its way to the UK and I went to see it a few weeks ago. They are very spacious and comfortable cars for their size. 8-)

I agree Chris,
I don't really get all the 2cv fervour ...
There's so many of the things and the prices they
Command are just plain daft...
I much prefer the Ami, the estate is so practical :-D
You can take the rear seats out in 30 seconds to utilise
A fair old loadspace, or you've got a picnic bench seat !
Admittedly not as transportable as one of those walking sticks
That convert into a seat, but much more comfortable :-D
And yes Jim... I love the way they look too.

You can also remove the rear bench from a 2cv, a very handy idea!

DOnt get me wrong, the 2cv is fantastic fun and really brings a grin to my face when im driving it. I mainly drive it around town, which is by far the best place for it, that and country lanes.
