Malcolm is right,there is a unattached pipe there too.

It's for measuring backpressure. I have a bung in the exhaust, pre-cat which is presently plugged. The tube screws in there and I connect a pressure gauge to the top and rest it on the scuttle for driver's visibility.
Due to prolonged high heat, the rubber tank cap seal hardens and allow creep of the oil. The top of the tank also caves in slightly.

Makes sense, I took the black pipe at the back to either be the LHM overflow or a rubber sleeve for the bowden cable.addo wrote:It's for measuring backpressure.
