Yeah I'll need to push it and see how hard a life it's had already. Gentle and good I hope really though may see how much more they knock off it if anything is a little amiss!

Tbh all I used was a soft cloth, a bucket of warm water and some of that spray in upholstery cleaner.

Remember to try the lock button on the key card and all the leccy windows

French electrics mean every button will be pressed a few times or more

Also I'll check for rear water ingress as the upper window leaks I've heard and possibly take a Reilly jack as well to check the at underneath too...

well we went down to brum and back. and didnt get it.

It was an f*in dog. there were scrapes ALL around it, the interior was a total mess with bits missing here and there, gear knob and drivers seat really worn out almost, rear pass side arch had been filled from a previous accident and was all cracking and some fallen off and rust was showing! 1 tyre near bald yet others fine, undertray missing and a few pipes hanging down which didnt sit right with me as they shouldnt hang IMO even with no undertray. service history was patchy, would need a new windscreen as a chip in passenger side was laminating between the layers so spreading beyond MOT allowance.

For £795 i deemed it not worth the risk. expecially as the engine had been idling a while when we turned up and coolant was at normal running temp so showed it didnt overheat when stood but could have meant a cold start issue being hidden.

Currently looking at some others.

1 requires an engine and is up for £125 on the bay now with a few hours left.
another is an MOT failure listing what its failed on but not all of it so asked for a full list.

The MOT failure looks like an OK car in the pics and isnt too far. My idea for my brother was if it was good other than the failure sheet then buy a scrap one for £250 down south, tow or drive it back on day insurance and strip it for parts and weigh it in to make his money back and get a decent set of spares.

Its a petrol but i think the rear springs and setup are the same so that would save buying a new wheel bearing/hub for the rear, the alloys will have OK tyres and the host of other spares like an interior and electrics will be good and we can just drag it down to a scrapers on a trailer

Ah well wasted journey but hopefully it will help us find him a much better setup

Sorry to hear about your wasted journey , I have been in that position myself . The 2.0 tct Xantia estate would have been a better bet but it's just gone . What about Deans activa ? or is it an estate car your after .

Look at 406s and Xantias.

For that money it is not worth buying a dog and spending a load more money and time trying to make it a goer. Buy one which works, you will find some for that money.

Problem exists with the 406's in that the ones I can find local are rough as nails. There are xantias I would send him straight to knowing they would be good but his boss won't let him as they are not safe enough for them ;(

Yeh, to be honest, 406 estates are far more likely to be complete dogs than Lagunas.

If he could be tempted away from the wrong fuel then this is a massive amount of car for the money. Seriously considering it myself!

What about a Xsara Picasso? they must be getting cheap now and should offer similar space to an estate, if just a bit less.

A V6 C5 estate, while nice, would not be the most economical choice for doing such miles

It may be the dark side but I'm hoping to keep him away from those robbing stations and on the bio in a good mix as well 40% less than normal fuels and just as good!!

Is there a common fault with the dashboard, ie speed and rev counter just dying on these lagunas as one has come up cheap with a failed dash???

Fairly common. I have a backup supply. VERY common on the Vel Satis. My last one had had 3 dash changes. I wouldn't let it put you off if the car is right otherwise

How much are we looking at to get a replacement and is it a simple 2-3 screw type job to do??
Does it pick the milage up off the main ecu or does it default to the highest milage, ie if dash is higher than car it displays dash's?

The car looks alright so im going to see if my brother can knock it under £500 as it looks to be only a very basic model, not even 1/2 leather but has a 12month ticket so not too bad, though tax is another £180......

£20 from a scrappies... don't even bother pricing a new one. Changeover is half an hour job max. Dash usually displays the mileage last recorded on the dash. Although some have just reset to zero, you don't really know until it's in there!
