It was honestly like that every day for the last 4 days.

That's why we decided to extend our holiday by 5 days!

One thing I did learn though was - there is a limit to the grip on winter tyres! We drove was still driving around when it was this bad - up mountains, down mountains and then I got stuck on the slightest of inclines and got wedged between two banks of snow.

Couldn't right the car for the life of me.

We sneaked into one of our neighbour's garage (about 500 metres away so not really a neighbour but I don't think they knew / minded) and borrowed a scraper. I managed to clear a bit of compacted ice from under the front wheels. We returned the scraper and I got back into the car, put it in 1st and let the clutch out - the car just sat there wheelspinning slowly. I then got out of the car and both Sylvi and I managed to push the car around so that it was parallel with the side of the road and then I got back in and gently, tentatively went backwards down the slope.

When I say it was gentle that means 1 in 3, 1 in 2 maybe!!

I know. And it was like that EVERY day. I cleared the car every day and came out to the same scene. I wanted to leave it but I was told to clear it otherwise it might cave the roof in if I had 2 metres of snow on top!!! Imagine clearing that before work.

It reminds me when I was a kid living Peterhead (1960's) when we were snowed in and my old man went to the shop.

In normal weather a 10 minute round trip, it took him 2 hours.

When we got out to enjoy the snow the main road had disappeared under 20' of snow, great sledging, a few weeks later when a snow plough came through a car was found abandoned underneath with its roof flattened.

Just a memory I thought I would share.
