does it make any difference if you try locking the car with one or the other front doors open,
i know you or someone has check the wire's between the door/s and body, but i feel it is still a broken/fractured wire,

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
I'll have to check this out tomorrow, malcolm. I just can't face it tonight.
I'm pretty sure wires are intact.

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
Hi Malcolm
I opened both doors and basically the mechanism somehow prevents the key even being turned to lock it on either passenger or driver's door.
I'm off up to a scrapyard to get some spare solenoids and control unit.

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
no no no Roger
i ment try with just one front door open at a time and try locking the closed front door with the key,
as both the front sevos are master units and the rears are just slave units,
then try the other way and report your findings,
regards malcolm

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
Right then, Malcolm!
I am going to experiment more with this tomorrow but...
With driver's side front door open, nothing happens to any lock when NSF lock is key operated. It neither attempts to lock or unlock any of the doors.
With NSF door open, OSF lock key operated virtually locks the stiff OSR door in one. Intermittent really. Sometimes in one go. Sometimes two but this is much improved.
When I try to unlock OSF, still the same, nothing happens to ANY lock.
Does this suggest that NSF solenoid is faulty?
SWMBO told me this morning that the central locking became faulty after the alarm started to trigger randomly at 3 in the morning.
Now I know how my new multimeter works, I am going to strip out the alarm micro switches from under the locks in each door and test them for continuity or open circuit too.

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem

ZX Central Locking Problem
Problem is so much time has passed since the problems started that it cannot be relied upon as gospel.
Given the symptoms I described regarding your latest suggestion about the open doors, what do you think it could be given the results of that test?

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
at any point in the test i suggested did the central locking lock and unlock immediately,
if this did happen it suggests the system thinks one of the front doors is not shut fully, to the point it has not trigger the micro switch in the door lock,
in this case i would re/check the wires between door and A piller

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
I am going out now to do continuity tests on the wiring between A post and control unit and from A post to components within door.
Let's see if I can waste another 5 hours!!!

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
BINGO!
All sorted.
I swapped out the central locking control module and that rectified the non-locking issue.
The rear door button still wasn't going down or up and I am not entirely sure what cured this but I changed the solenoid and also the weighted circular connection just below the door button as the rod felt really really stiff.
I now have been awarded with some serious brownie points from SWMBO.
Right! I can concentrate on my Xantia now until something else goes wrong with hers!!!!

Re: ZX Central Locking Problem
I am pretty convinced it was the rotating plastic under the door button to be honest.
Are you going to X rally tomorrow? If so, I'll bring the rotatey bit with me so you can have a feel!
Oo er, missus!

Shame. Good job you didn't turn up because I forgot the part anyway and have only just read your reply
Meant to take it to get other peoples' opinions.
