The 3.0 dV6 produces 180 BHP. I have never heard of anybody remapping one as they are pretty damn quick anyway! I've never driven an Espace with this engine but my old Vel Satis had it and it is very nice indeed. A lot of torque, and pretty terrifying if you plant your foot on the accelerator - I highly doubt you'll need to remap one!

My Vel Satis easily achieved 45 MPG on a motorway run, but it sits at around 33-35 with everyday driving (a mix of motorway and town driving)

Grand Espace adds a few extra cms to the car, so there is slightly more boot space. The difference isn't that noticeable, so it's not really that important.

Both the 3.0 dV6 and 3.5 V6 petrol only come as an auto. The gearbox has a manual mode if that helps?

The Mark 4 is the much smarter looking car, started in 2003

What about the Citroën Synergy or the Peugeot 806 ( old shape )with the 2.0 Hdi , quite a tried and tested machine , get one with a nice specification and you will have a good combination of space and luxury

If you could pick up a 2.0HDi Exclusive Citroen Synergie, it'd be a lot better than a Renault Espace MK4. The MK4 is the age when Renault started making utter rubbish. If you only have the choice of the 3.0V6 TD due to the Renault made DCi's filling their sumps with diesel and revving themselves into orbit, think to yourself, you can get 30-33mpg combined out of a petrol model. A bit pointless. Then think of the Road Tax which will more than likely be between 250-400 per year. A HDi Synergie should attract the old "Under 1.6" tax, of £70 for 6 months and £125 for 12.

The Synergie/806/Ulysse are a little poor on spec, no options of ESP or sat nav and the like, but, they're of the age where you can fetch in a decent stereo with a Sat Nav, Bluetooth and MP3 Built in, along with a hand full of speakers for the cost of a fan belt on the Espace.
A decent Van will have A/C, ABS, Electric Windows ALL round (Including the little pop out ones in the back) and be a lot more hard wearing.

If I had that money to spend, I'd be looking for a 51 Plate HDi Pug/Citroen.

Extra plus, they were originally designed as a van... So all the seats come out and you've got something just short of a Transit!

Im not a renault expert, and it is possible the one i worked on was just a bad one, but I had one 2006 2.2dci to work at, and it just leaked large quantitys of oil from everywhere on the engine nearly, was told by an ex renault tech that theres a bit in the intake manifold which blocks and then the intake air starts pressurising the oil? so we changed the intake manifold and seals, few weeks later though it was doing it again and got a new turbo, which was a pain in the ass to fit i might add, but even after the turbo it still leaked oil, we then changed the rocker cover gasket and all sorts of other things and it still leaked oil.... it also burst a front shock and had a broken rear spring, and the discs were scrap but as with alot of cars now the discs come complete with the rear wheel bearings so are a fortune.

I was thoroughly un impressed with it, but it was reasonably nice to drive when it worked...... i will get slayed for this but id stay clear of large french people carriers to be honest cause the citroen c8 etc is just as bad if not worse lol

i`ve had 3 espace - 2 mk 2`s (TD and 2 litre petrol) and a mk3

avoid mk 3`s - really.

they are a huge PITA to work on , the engine bay is beyond a nightmare - you have 6 inch`s clearance to change the spark plugs - its a total joke , computer to run the lights? meh

the TD mk 2 was the best of the them , the petrol mk2 was the juciest by alot under 20mpg :(

but the mk3 - mine threw its cam belt - 22 months after it was replaced , complete and tensioner (and aux drive belt was changed)- srsly not happy as it wrecked the engine , brakes on mine were a constant pain (for ever going soft ) it was on a 52 plate.

btw the fiat ulysse is the same as the 806/synerby/lancia zeta - they are all made in the same factory.
