Once the C5 honeymoon period is over you may find half the toys don't
work or are rather irratating or pointless and keeping the Activa on standby
suddenly makes a whole lot of sense?

Personally, I can't see how going from a decent Activa to a C5 is a step
you'd voluntarily want to make - the wallet not the heart made this call?

I agree Andrew, the Activa will be a very hard car to give up and I can see why people come back to them over and over again once they have sold one.

Unfortunately the toys on C5s very rarely fail and I find them great features rather than irritating. However the only thing I miss when im driving the Activa is cruise control.

My Activa isn't going anywhere but the C5 makes more sense as a daily drive, not just for the economy either.

I fear a 07 Exclusive 2.2HDi C5 would cost rather more than a few years fueling an Activa ...

I realise I have an Activa fitted with working cruise control myself
but isn't cruise control in an Activa a bit like having a seatbelt in the
Space Shuttle: sounds like a great idea but then, if you do need
to use it, things aren't really going the way you'd like them to be?

Put another way, a racehorse could pull a laden cart but would be
a whole lot better put to use opening up some pace on a course
better suited to it's particulary unique strengths = an Activa!

When the projected use doesn't lend itself to this anymore I can
understand the argument of a change to a dependable miserly
slogger but then life just get's a whole lot blander and grey in the
process.

I think you have just answered your own post there Andrew.

Motorway journeys are unavoidable and around here pretty much everywhere I go I have to be on at least a dual carriageway for a while before I get to any decent roads. My daily commuting has been 70 miles of motorway/city driving and 25 miles of dual carriageways depending on where im commuting to.

While the Activa is fine on the motorway, its fairly refined, comfortable and has plenty of pull, its main asset is not needed for most of my daily car needs. So for me at least it works best as a second car and my C5 takes the daily slog, which it is good at. For a boring dual carriageway, the C5 hushes the miles away with ease.

Not to mention the amount of traffic at the times I travel and the slowness of people.

I do sometimes use the Xantia for my commute as I like driving it even when not hooning around but mostly im using it for drives which are enjoyable, not at peak times and not all boring roads.

If you're not really into miles of empty sandy beaches and unspoiled natural
countryside I never really thought I'd find many other reasons to justify
living out here in the wilds beyond planet Swansea but I think I just have
a biggie!

I thought you'd be on all those fantastic military ranges out in the wilds
of Northumberland Chris? My roots (and heart) are still there with you
but I've gotten to be a 'soft southerner' now and it's just too damned raw
and cold for me now. Heater on full, roof open full and throttle open fully
would still be the way to go on those roads though!!

Northumberland Andrew, im about 35/40 miles away so its a place for nice drive occasionally rather than part of my daily duties. I actually commute to Uni in Newcastle but from here to there is just another dual carrigeway which usually resembles a car park at 8.30am. and then 30 minutes of inching traffic. I can't win

I doubt the Activa would appreciate that either.

About the most fun I have on my daily drive is a few good roundabouts. If im not careful my Activa is going to be a car deprived of any good roads!

Hence my popping down to Wales a few months back for a good old drive around some scenery and also my recent trip to Scotland - which is quite where I would like life to take me actually.

Of course its not all bad, I do have Yorkshire almost on my doorstep

Some excellent roads over on the moors

Scotland is also about 2 and a half hours away too, I need to take the Activa there

Standard fit, as im sure that car has an option ticked

No it wasn't!! Not on a manual car - it's retrofitted.

As it happens the car has every option I'd have chosen if I'd ordered it new
myself with the winter pack headlamp washers and heated seats etc and yet
it has the crazy tartan velour in the red sunroof/AC bodyshell - oh yes!!!

Sounds perfect Andrew, cloth Activa seats are lovely, im not one for leather.

awesome ... doubt you'd want to sell it

been toying with the idea of cruise control with an activa ... but i would not want to ruin the dash ...
