its a matter of personal choice isnt it I prefer a bulb that spreads its light in all directions a dark coloured vechicle in a rural lane with no lights might be better off having spreaded light as opposed to a fixed beam.hobblerian wrote: in my XM sidelights, far better than the old yellow ones. Nice and bright and a good colour match to HIDs. The light only shines forward though not an all round glow like a normal bulb.
headlamps dont give a true width of the vechicle in total darkness because of indicator lenses and the thickness of the wings on either side in narrow lanes this is important the side lights help to make judging the width of a vechicle easier.

Re, sirens....I saw something on TV a while back where they were experimenting with white noise which is much more directional. The siren wail was interrupted at intervals by a burst of white noise which made it much easier to tell which direction the sound was coming from. Never heard it on the road though, so maybe it wasn't as good as they made out.

Fitted them to Cassy this evening.

Much better light, although it doesn't show it clearly in the photo, it does light up the headlamp, they're a proper white light too, rather than the candle like light of the old bulbs.

S'pose I'll have to trawl the Ebay listings to find a deal, unless my suppliers can get a better rate, as I want a few of these.
H
£3.69 for the pair, cheaper than some 501s from halfrauds!
I'm going to buy more for Juliet and Jenny
Actually, just ordered some 25LED H1 replacement bulbs for the headlights so will see how they are.

Ordered 6 for 99p, but as it's xmas time the supplier is using a courier rather than EMS so it was around £9 for shipping, but thats still under £15 for 6 bulbs!
LED lights have come on so much in the last few years, from those horrible blue/grey lights that give about as much illumination as moonlight with no defined edge, to the newer ones which give a proper white light.
I've got a cheap tripod torch, only about 5 inches long, runs off button batteries but the illumination is bright and an edge that's so defined you'd have thought it was drawn with a pen!
My phone uses similar LEDs to the H1s, so it takes plenty of photos of people screwing up their eyes and then complaining of being blinded, so I'm hoping with 25 of them it will solve the dim headlight issue.
