My V6 suffered from front wheel bearing noise, it turned out that there was no wear on the bearing's they were just dry :( so no play was evident by way of the usual methods of checking.

Thanks fellas.
Ok…so I will start checking the rear wheels/bearings first and if I’m lucky it’ll be them –and
BX rear bearings will fit…might actually make it easier to find non-original parts. ;-)
Pray for me now.
I’ll write an update early next week. :)

Hi there guys,

Finally took the car to an “independent” mechanic who’s a friend of a friend. He took a ride
in it cornering hard left and right a few times and was able to produce the humming noise at
even 40 km/s. “So, it’s one of your wheel bearings”, he said. Then we drove back to his garage
and he jacked up the car examining the wheels one by one and his verdict was ‘both rear wheel
bearing are worn out’. It wasn’t hard to make the case as both wheels -once spun- sounded like
you were scratching a piece of metal with a sharp object.

I bought the bearings today (cost me bloody 130€ for aftermarket parts!!) and tomorrow he’s
gonna put them in (I’m too busy at work before my vacation starts next week to even think about doing it myself).

That’s it. Another Xantia maintenance chapter closed. More expensive than I had hoped but
certainly not as bad as it could have been. ;-)

Cheerio,
Gabriel
