You dont seem to be doing too many miles, 300 from when you got it? The economy might be down to short runs?

My economy is rubbish and is mainly attributable to short trips and lead shoes.

If i stick in the town my C5s economy goes right down. Usually my routes are a good mixture of everything and motorway driving does bring up the MPG - even sitting at 'high' speeds.

I find our 138 much easier to get good MPG from, it has more low down torque and a 6th gear.

Considering how I drive my C5, im extremely impressed with its economy.

Well my first tankfull averaged 38.9 mpg which is bang on the combined figure for my Auto version but included the 160mile gentle A road run to the coast. (Fuel Computer showed 46mpg for the coastal run)
Fuel computer doesn't seem that far out either.

I'm about halfway through this tankfull and currently sat at 36mpg but that's commuting and knocking about.

So pretty much what I expected and over 10mpg more than my Mondeo.
The range feels much larger than the Mondeo but the Mk3 only had a 13.4 Gallon Tank against the C5's 15.6 Gallon Tank. So not filling up any where near as often but it's more expensive when I do.

I can get the instant mpg down to 6mpg which isn't very diesel like.

Almost 40MPG is pretty good for a large car with an auto box. I would be impressed with that.

Manual should do quite a bit more, but it depends where you drive it.

As i said, our 138 estate manual C5II does 45MPG+ on average.

Yes, its a little odd seeing MPG figures in the single figures when accelerating!
