Xantia suspension quality

You can't fit softer ones to the centre as they are already as soft as soft can be, its the corner ones you change.

The corner ones, you will then get a reasonably soft ride even if the hydractive is not working, if it is, you can have a very soft ride.

I have not checked to see if PO has changed sphere type on mine .......maybe that is why my ride is comfy?.

Going back to the original post -

Our 95MY Xant estate had all new spheres about 18 months and 10k ago. It certainly rides best with a load in the back - that said, I would agree with comments about small irregularities being more noticable than big ones, but it's more noise than jolts.

Full tank, 4 bags of logs, a bootful of luggage/shopping and 2 up = magic carpet ride even on rural roads!

Some months ago, I had the opportunity to compare a new (I mean new) Focus TD with the Xantia I brought the Ford back X-country to Glos., got out and drove off in the Xantia. The handling of the Ford was sharper and it certainly had much more go (no - I didn't thrash someone else's new car!) BUT did it ever crash and jolt over every bit of broken surface and when I couldn't avoid a (not vey big) pothole at speed I thought I'd broken both the suspension and my spine!

I think we get accustomed to our own car's characteristics (good or bad) unless we drive something else for a few hours and then get back into our car.

I came back from Newcastle a while back with two diesel engines and a gearbox in the back of the XM - fantastic ride, didn't do a lot for the performance though.

I drive a Seat Leon 1.9td during the week and can't wait for Saturday to be able to drive my Xantia. The suspension on the Seat is really hard and major potholes make dentists obsolete

my R reg 1.9TD has intermitant ride quality, sometime harsh and sometimes smooth, and yes a load in the back dose give the MAGIC CARPT ride,

so you havent actualy removed the HC linkage carridges and completely freed the turret's off, as i dont belive you can free them of long term without removeing them,

also you will benafit from a fluid change (no not tea for coffe) and clean tank filtters if not already done,
