£399 for a a full clutch and DMF kit Steve, thats very cheap, much better than i was thinking. Ive heard of some steep prices for clutchs, £1000 and over. Our freelander had a clutch replacement, that was £1300!

Our 52reg C5 had a solid flywheel, it had the DMF removed at 70K miles when it went (the clutch friction plate was almost untouched aparently). Its now on 121K miles with no problems, gearbox isw as smooth as silk (cant see how the clutch can damage the gearbox actually, if the clutch is desengaged there is no difference to the gearbox)

Yes the bite is a bit sharper compared to my C5 with a DMF but its not unlike most cars without a DMF. I find the DMF gives a soft change, but would rather not have one for reliability reasons.

Cars shouldnt be going through clutches in a hurry, unless covering very high mileages or is owned by a clueless driver. So having to replace a C5s clutch which has had its DMF removed with a Valeo unit shouldnt be a problem.

Well car seems ok now, had a full power run up the M606 (quite steep) and is ok at 1800 rpm to 4000 rpm in 3rd 4th 5th and 6th? no signs of oil leaks from bell housing and not lost any clutch fluid. Wonder if clutch had just got a bit warm after some spirited driving?

My local specialist don't want to know regarding fitting a conversion kit to get rid of the dual mass.
Anyone know anywhere local to leeds/bradford that would do it?
I really dont want to have to do it myself as its a pig of a job to do on your back in the rain and the garage is full at the minute!

Id have to check back in the service history, but i think the previous owner of mine got it fitted at M&M motors Holmfirth, cant be far from you as the car used to live in Bradford.

Its a very good garage, Citroen indy in fact, im sure they fitted mine.

Try RTN in stainforth Doncaster as they do loads of PUG/Cit work.

I would reccomend going for the non DMF route and replacing the lot if they will do it for you. the parts from the earlier xantias use no DMF IIRC?

Different engine and gearbag to Xantia unfortunately.
16v 138ps hdi 6 speed.

Ah, i didnt know yours is the 16v, have you checked to make sure there is a solid flywheel kit available for your 2.0 HDi 16v?

Ive had a look around ebay, there is one available for x-type Jag which is same engine but a 5 speed box?
It's the same as your estate but a hatchback C5 mk2

That might fit, though im not sure how you would check?

Does the Jag use the same 2.0HDi 138 as the C5? But with a 5 speed box, thats odd!

Some Fords (some Focus and Mondeo) use that engine too, might be a kit out for those? They have a 6 speed box.

Yeah the X-type uses a 5 speed on the 2 litre and a 6 speed on the 2.2d
Not sure if flywheel is same or not?
Yeah its the exact same engine, Mondeo 140 uses sae gearbox as C5 by look of it

Guys, there are many drawbacks about solid flywheel conversions.....i posted an explanation on this sometimeback after attending a specific course on DMF's and solid flywheel conversions at LUK headquarters.

Personally i would recommend M&M Automotive in Holmfirth as a good Citroen independant in the Yorkshire area and also only fit a DMF and clutch kit if the current DMF is tested and deemed "shot". Some garages dont test the DMF's as they need a special tool to test them and are still in the dark about the technology involved so simply recommend to change it to play it safe, but believe it or not DMF's are designed to last the life of the vehicle if driven "correctly" (which is somewhat unrealistic) so often dont need replacing. If your vehicle could be run reliably on a solid flyheel it wouldnt be fitted with a DMF

Its down to avoiding premature failure of other components in the drivetrain which has been mentioned earlier.

The X-Type doesn't get the same diesel engine or gearbox as the C5, it gets the older Ford 2.0 diesel. The 2.2 diesel the X-type gets is Transit derived rather than a PSA engine. The later Fords that get the PSA engine have a different gearbox to the PSA cars, different flywheel and clutch too.
