The Xm "4 pedals" malarkey is a mantra used by autobox lovers and is used
as a big stick to smack the manual box about the head with no real justification
whatsoever - so, it's a bit different from the trap door lever that almost
every other car still insists on using. So what!

Just shows some people have a mental block about anything that's new
or different from what's usually the status Quo. Some folk should try driving
a 2CV or GS to realise there's life beyond safe, ordinary and boring.

Ahh I see, didn't realise it was foot operated.

I only ask as I'm in the market for another car. I can't decide what I want. I wouldn't mind an Alfa 156 GTA but I'm looking at all sorts at the moment, and was pondering an XM V6 Manual even though I know how rare they are and how some people hoard them

 I do like the V6 ones, sorry...

I've driven a 156 with flippy paddles and the ride felt like a Xantia on flat
spheres or on the bumpstops - fun for two minutes but tiring after three.

The fourth Xm handbrake pedal is used in conjunction with a locking hand
operated lever (more like a switch) on the dash console and is released on
a hill start with this not the foot operated lever - some Mercs do the same
thing I've heard (whatever they are!? )

The big Xm is a bigger Xantia with an added layer on endearing quirkiness
and complexity bit spades of style and presence. A Cx is a notch further
up this scale still.

Xm manuals are great, i never/rarely use the parking brake when im driving any car, only when parking (obviously!) so i dont find it a problem. Even if i do need to use it its not a problem, infact i usually have a smile on my face as its an odd thing to have to use a foot operated parking brake. Very easy to get used to and gives the centre console more free space. Before having driven a manual Xm id have thought it would be an odd idea, but its not, its a great idea.

Though with the way you see a lot of people attacking hill starts and junctions (riding the clutch to keep the car still) it wouldnt worry a lot of people! I prefer to use the pedal in the middle  Sorry, i mean the third from the right!

Harryjoe, the Xm is white, there are some pictures of it in my blogs thread. Really would hate to get rid, but the idea is being tossed around at the moment.

I've experienced the (assume) same handbrake in a DS and found it fine and quite intuitive but then that was on a semi-auto DS so no clutch pedal to worry about...

CT - Constant Torque.

It has a low-pressure turbocharger to give near constant torque from 6 to 6000 rpm. Develops a maximum of 150bhp somewhere in its rev range but that's not important. It's the treestump extracting torque that's important.

Makes it feel like a diesel in some ways.

Same engine as in the Xantia Activa Turbo.

Brilliant smooth quiet torquey engine but not the most economical...

Nice, but that's another manifold job that requires spare kidney removal?

I am pretty darned impressed with my recently acquired 2.0CT and economy is certainly better than my BX GTi auto (mind you, that's not difficult).

22-26 urban 38-40 on a run.

(BX: 18-21 urban, best run 35).

up to 40 ! on a run! From the Turbo 2 litre engine... hows that? Down hill on over run?

If my 2.o Turbo was that good Id consider - and I mean consider keeping it, but personally, I dont think they are that good! The only engine that gives around 40 to 40 plug would be he 2.1 DERV..

ANYWAY Lets NOT get into an economy and engine debate, it always happens in here..

Hummm, Chris your XM in white is splended, looks the part, iv'e always avoided white cars, but it looks good in that colour,

All i can say is keep us informed :D

Maybe a little out of my price range  not unless you want to give it away    ...

Thanks Jim for that info, don't want to come across as a bit dim, but want to make the right choice.

Aye, although that's usually after a post by a certain "citroenxm"?

If you don't use the turbo sensible figures can be seen on a 2.0i TCT.
Takes all the fun out of it somewhat - when I start driving my cars like
I've retired already I'll know it's time to sell 'em all.
