slipped cambelt aux tensioner to blame!

I have the aux tensioner off all except the centre bearing spindle. And that seems solid. I can't turn it or pull it out or knock it to-and-fro with a lump hammer. It's solid. Any ideas?
You'll have to remove the plate it and the pump etc are fitted to.
Not a hard job, just a bit long winded.

. Yes Malcolm, it's the auto tensioner for the aux belt. I have undone both the top & bottom spring bolts and removed the tensioner assembly - all except for the centre shaft which is still stuck solid. I guess I'll have to do as Xac says but I have been trying to avoid the extra work...

i have had this on one i did, so i gently tapped it up and down with a hammer and drift till it came free,

i did not remove the mountting plate/bracket,

Cheers Malcolm, I have tried giving it a good clout (or two!) and so far it hasn't budged. I think I'll try a bit more direct persuasion before I remove the whole bracket. I can't believe it's being so stubborn!

Can you not clamp it with grips and pull it directly away from the engine?

How hard is it to take the support bracket off? I'm in the same situation. My tensioner pivot has seized so I'm not sure if I will be able to rotate it to get the bottom bolt on the spring inline with the hole anyway.
I assume it is a case of removing the HP pump (new seals on refitting?) and the alternator. Any other bits of note to move?

No seals on the HP Pump, it uses conventional Flares on thoses pipes!

But yes, take HP Pump off, take alintator off, you can then get the WHOLE bracket off with BOTH the eccentric tensioner and auto tensioner, with spring.. assemble it all on the bench and refit it!!

MUCH easyer then fumbling around in the engine bay with the chassis in the way

Thanks for the info. Any idea how many and where the bolts holding the bracket on are?
Whilst the HP pump is off I can change the O ring that is weeping. Any suggestions for cleaning LHM+grot off the pump and alternator?

As far as I can recall Duncan, there's three bolts holding the bracket on. At least two are Allen heads... It's on dowels so it'll take a little prising off.

Crab cleaner or a similar solvent (I used a strong electronics grade called Ultrasolve made by Electrolube) is good for long-leaked LHM. I had an alternator saturated in LHM on my V6. I removed it, saturated it in solvent and green solvent ran out for ages. After a blow-dry with an air-line, it came up like new.

LHM can kill an alternator but my well soaked one is still fit and well after 10,000 miles.

Malcolm, I get it from James Pond, He specialises in parts and accessories for motorpikes and sidecarps.

Gotta watch using it though. It comes out of the can sideways....
