Cassy won't start

D'uh...I forgot the oldest trick in the book! - give the starter a good clonk with the end of hammer shaft or something

We did Not a sausage. A nice healthy spark when energising the solenoid but not a sound from within. The solenoid appears to be jammed or otherwise unhappy.

Could be a simple case of lubing the shaft that the bendix runs on at the end of the starter motor....have had this happen a couple of times on Vauxhalls.
