I actually think Renault have gone STEEPLY down hill!!
Their 80's to early 90's engineering was I think AMAZING!!
There was a MANY Renault 25 ( Remember them, I do and unfortunally seem to be none left) with a MASSIVE millage on the Douvrin 2.2 litre engine (also fitted to the CX

)
The OHV engines in the 18, Feugo, 9, 11 were ALSO very strong and went quite well.. I was unfortunate to have NEVER sampled a Turbo in any format, and a 1600 Renault 18 Turbo with 125 bhp sounded VERY tempting, in fact, wanting! But it was the awfull bodys that let them down... in the 25 it was apparently electrics, so renault sorted the bodys, but spoilt it all with Electronic technology... Ive seen MANY A newer Ren driver having immobiliser problems, needing to lock/unlock a car many times to get the ECU to unlock to start the car....
