Just a quick update,new rack arrived fitted and checked No leaks 8) .
Steering back to normal.
As suggested by jgra1 DON'T do the repair on the steering pinion by a recon one. I found they are easily sourced and save a lot of heartache.
I've learned my lesson on this one.
