Well, it looks like I'm not gonna ge to play with the Saxo this time either :(

Garage quoted 350€ for the cambelt change, oil & filter, air-filter & plugs.

They are also going to clean the engine to identify the point of the oil leak & quote further for that. Also will leave us with the choice. But guessing if they are doing the oil change we may as well get the leak done done at the same time!

Daughter has put aside 600€ for this maintenance & is quite chuffed with the quote so far.

I'd 'warned' her of a quote around 700+€'s as that is what I'd been given for my Volvo 850 (different garage mind you). I did my Volvo for £70 cam & aux belts. That said I didn't replace any pulleys, water pump or tensioner as advice was if all is quiet, leak free & tensioner pin pushes back in smoothly & mileage is not 'intergalactic' go for it!

10k further on & all is well :D

Gotta say I was looking forward to doing a bit of work on the little Saxo :(
But at least by Monday, she'll be sorted :lol:

Job done, 475€ total. The oil leak was a seal. 12.50€ for the part & labour to about triple it :roll:

Engine is now sparkly clean :D

They advised that they found a smidge of water in the oil, whilst doing the change. H/gasket beginning to go home & suggested that it be done 'next time' - oil change time I think they were getting at.

Wondering if someting like 'steel-seal' would be worth a go? Guess it can't do any harm :?:

Or water pump?? Perish the thought.

The Saxo is truly dead.

Yep, fraid so. Important thing is My daughter & her boyfirend walked away with minor cuts & bruises:

Back in Sept, someone in a 407SW failed to stop at a stop sign :roll: & daughter went into its side at about 40mph or so.

Little Saxo had just pushed 140k too & was still sweet, also with the new belts & W/pump, exhaust & tyres!

Gotta say I was quite impressed with how well it held up. Both doors opened & no intrusion into the cabin by the engine. Phew.

Frenchy insurance paid out 1200€ for the car & both got 210€ for the injuries sustained!

Replacement is an (06 I think) 307SW & as a result boyfriend traded his elderly 106D for a 407SW
