A VERY lucky escape!!!

Got onto Citroen UK this morning. Explained my problem and how I couldn't understand why the car hadn't been recalled and they were very helpful and have agreed to cover the total cost of the repair!!!

I am, as we say in these parts, REET CHUFFED!!!!

There are only 3 reasons for these sort of breakages - assuming that the design is correct:

1) Material out of spec

2) Surface finish faulty

3) Incorrect heat treatment.

None of these are acceptable IMHO

Xsaras seem to break their springs quite often, fortunately failures like this tend to be at low speeds when the stresses on the suspension are at their greatest.
I had one fail at the very top, but without doing any damage. If its any consolation I was talking to the MOT tester about mine breaking and he said that in the past month or so every single Vauxhall he had tested had at least one spring broken, so Citroens don't seem so bad in comparison !

Really, relly lucky. Glad to see only small damage. Sorry about your tire.

But as has been said before, salt can make things ugly. Luckily I live in a tropical country, so at least good old ZX won't rust.

Believe me, its far from just PSA cars that suffer from this failing. I've had it happen on Audi 80's, 100's and most recently on my daughters Renault Megan (where it did about the same amount of damage to the tyre). The important thing is to replace BOTH sides even if the other side seems OK.
