Not an answer to your question Gerry but my GS (4-speed) had the slickest, quietest gearbox I have ever experienced.

He seems to have the right grade in it. Chcecking clutch action would be the other free thing.

Do you have Teflon additives available easily in the UK? The stuff Alan swore by - G70 - is basically a paste of various sized Teflon particles. It works; I've limped an unexpectedly dry gearbox half a mile with no long term effects.
