Heater Blower can't be switched off

After all the work you’ve done, there’s ‘better the devil you know’ and all that.

Also all as per Peter and Jim … the blower is on when you turn the key because the supply gets connected when you turn the key, irrespective of whether the relay modification in the blower supply has been done or not.
Normally, the electronic drive starts the motor, but with a shorted drive, it turns all the time.
The plug into the blower motor can be disconnected to stop the fan without removing any fuse.

Simplest method I know Mike, it to unplug the connectors from the blower motor

I have to admit, I'm not the man to save this one.

I'll pull the plug tomorrow, I think I've seen DIY-looking crimps on the end of a few fat single wires going to the blower. That'll be after I've read the links you've so kindly provided. Thanks

Of the fattest wires to the blower, two were red, no connectors, just single crimps on all wires - someone's been here before - pulled the nearest red and fan doesn't work anymore - hoorah!

Carpet is still soaked, as to be expected. Scuttle is broken in no less than five places - if it's easy to remove I might have a laugh with some superglue and sealant or something.

not too sure on ease of removal but when it goes back in it needs to be really well sealed
try using mastik to seal to windscreen. you can get it on a roll about an inch wide. i get it from a caravan dealers/repairers think its about £1 a metre or less.they call it chewing gum and it works really well.

Got in the car today and saw drips falling onto carpet again. I was intending to pull the scuttle off and superglue the cracks/splits then seal it in place with silicone sealant. I can see now why it's been damaged - some neanderthal has obviously levered the wiper arms off instead of simply pulling them off at some time.

In the end I quickly beaded the join to the screen with sealant... and not a moment too soon as we got torrential rain, hailstones, thunder and lightning overhead.

I put dry newspaper in the passenger footwell and not one drop appeared for the next 30 minutes of rain.

I know it's not a perfect seal and may not last but it's definately an improvement and with Citroen parts quoting me £62 for a new scuttle

I think I made the right choice.

After being rained on most of yesterday and this morning I'm pleased to report water no longer leaks over the fan blower. The newspaper laid under the blower was still bone dry at lunchtime today.

I removed the three screws holding the blower in place (one was rusty) and disconnected the wiring the pulled the assembly free.

To get at the pcb, I think I need to remove the vaned drum/cylinder but it looks like a press fit - no clips or washers holding it on. Additionally, the shaft it's on has surface rust too.

Does it have to be foreced off? If so, it looks like a bearing puller is needed and leverage points don't look strong enough.

Anybody got any tips for me please?

Cancel that, it's apart now, just pull the connector grommet off, pull the main connector out and using a lever, push it out from underneath.

Easy when you know how

Thanks everyone and an especially big thank you to that kind man citrojim, my blower is now back in place and working as it did, possibly a bit better as it's been cleaned and lubricated too. $\:D/$

Fixing the rain leaking in was a priority and a bead of silicone sealant cured that just fine, then I replaced the blower transistors as per forum advise - I wouldn't have been able to do it all without you, I'm sure!
