Sorry for delay but i've been busy with round green things on a xantia..
Yes it is a turbo and yes it is rotodiesel..haven't had a chance to look yet, not sure what I should be looking for re problems..any pointers
Just another note with regard to DJ Wollards posting...not sure I fancy letting this engine rev away as it frightens the life out of me and I can't afford a new engine...unless you're offering...?

Have a gander at this, especially the last two paragraphs of the third page.

Does it rev its nuts off when cold started, if it does I would further discount the oil thoery, I don't think a cold engine would run away on its own oil very easily from idle speed, even if it got the chance, sounding more like air to me.

Strange this one.. I park the TGD on a sloping drive. If I park it nose down, there is frequently the following: Lumpy start, a few seconds after start the engine just takes off and revs as high as it can before I can stop it, the fumes are very smokey and smell unusual - a kind of burning smell, the engine sounds really rough with a rather nasty knocking sound. If I park flat or tail down, the car behaves normally. Its done around 177K - could this be the fuel pump..?

Guys,
I'm sitting back enjoying and learning on this one but something that seems to have fallen off the plate is the fact that hippy reckons this only happens when the car is parked a certain way. How is this affecting things? My thoughts are is it oil getting somewhere it shouldn't or could it be possible that being parked that way it's causing stress on something that then leaks?
I'm not trying to muddy the water but is anybody able to shed light on to this aspect of it?

Hippy,
If it stops when you turn off the ign key, even after a couple of seconds, then it's not going to be the possible oil problem. When you get an oil fuelled runaway engine it makes you panic because there is no way to stop it without stalling against the gears/brakes or blocking the air intake completely.
This makes it more likely yours is air/inj' pump problems.

Does the oil burning produce more power than the diesel?
The semi insane thoughts say that if you where to feed oil into the engine at the same time as the diesel, giving stupidly high revs, then it would boost power (i guess something like sticking NOS into a petrol). Assuming that you coud control the revs by regulationg the oil feed, could this be used as a boost?
PS im only looking at the theory, im guessing the complications (such as blowing the head through the ozone layer) would outway the benefits, but could it 'thoeretically' be done?
