The 1.6 HDI can be had in a 110 bhp version that compares with the 2.1 that the XM gets, they have roughly the same torque (marginally less iirc) too. If the 2.1 can drag the XM about happilly I think the 1.6 would be just as happy, but the engine is lighter and maybe quieter.f00lzz wrote:Wouldn't the XM be a bit on the large/heavy side for a 1.6 and why a 1.6 when a 2.0 is available?

Hi there foolzz
Dont you think the C5 is heavyer then the XM due to all the extra Safty features.
HDi 1.6 16v is 110bhp..
HDi 2.0 8v is 110bhp
IDI 2.1td is 110bhp
BUT the HDi Torque figures are much much better, which is what counts in a DERV engine. I dont have figures to hand to quote but I know both the HDi's have a much higher torque figure then the OLD 2.1td. So the 1.6 would be perfect! HOWEVER. I do agree though, 8 valves may be a bit more reliable then 16valves.. Time will tell

Some data on the older diesel engines...
http://www.kolumbus.fi/perhe_pitkanen/xw/engine3.htm
The HDI 110 and the 2.1TD produce the same amount of power and torque, only the HDI does both at lower RPMS.
Googling turned this page up about the diesels...
http://peugeot.mainspot.net/tips/new_diesel_v6.shtml
It quotes the torque figures of the 1.6 HDI as 235Nm or 260Nm on "overboost". Thats 173 lb ft or 191 lb ft on overboost.
