There is just no point, get a 2.5dtr 1 and have fun! The 2.5dtr wipes the floor with my xm!

...and that's the DTR Turbo 1 engine Dave! The DTR Turbo 2's are 120BHP and 188 FT/LB of Torque. Fastest Diesel in their day I'm led to believe...davetherave wrote:There is just no point, get a 2.5dtr 1 and have fun! The 2.5dtr wipes the floor with my xm!

Re: Diesel Engine for a CX?
I know I am toying with the idea of making mine a turbo 2 when it undergoes its restoration... we shall see. I think its just a case of different turbo, +intercooler and different fuel pump. Well I already have the intercooler... and I know of an engine hmmmm

Re: Diesel Engine for a CX?
I'm not 100% sure myself Dave (I could tell you about the GTi Turbo differences!) although I know someone that will know - he should be at the X Rally so I'll ask him.
For reference here's a DTR Turbo 2 engine bay overview...

...and here's those pictures that I took for you at last years CXM of that chap's CX DTR Turbo 2 Safari!

If dad decides to go in the DTR Turbo 2 to the X Rally then feel free to pull yours up next to it and compare... I heard you bumped into each other again in Tesco!

Re: Diesel Engine for a CX?
I really do not know what some of you have been doing to CX Turbo diesel motors. Since 1994 I have driven well over 400,000 miles in CX Turbo diesels and have had one head gasket/head fail … and that was after I'd let the water level drop too low so an air lock developed. That is in my experience the Turbo diesels only Achilles heel - you should never ignore the water level light. All but the last two were Turbo 2s though I think I prefer the Turbo 1 diesel which whilst not ultimately so powerful has a much more even spread of power. They have been driven hard - certainly no pussy footing.

Re: Diesel Engine for a CX?
Totally agree about these being robust - the only weakness is the cooling system: I certainly never bought into
the whole porous block syndrome and when there was a failure with one it was always found to beccracks in the
cylinder head which caused the head gasket symptoms - usually between the two cylinders nearest the gearbox.

I don't see why not : From Citronet.org..andmcit wrote:Woah now - hang on guys - fitting an Xu engine in a CX - er NO!; Cx diesel engines being reliable - er NO [at least DTR2 ones]; NO info on 2.2 Douvrin engine - er YES!
Where to start? Do you think a Xantia engine would manage to move such a big heavy car as the CX
"CX Safari is available at present only as a 2000. Still, that engine is no sluggard - weighing in with a peak of 102 bhp (DIN) at 5,500 rpm, and offering maximum torque of 112 lb ft at 3,000 rpm"
There's plenty of Xantia engines with considerably more grunt than that!

According to the data, you're wrong :-pStinkwheel wrote:Right, gotta say never weighed them but NO WAY is a CX lighter than a Xantia.
1985 CX 25 DTR Turbo Saloon - 1406kg
2000 Xantia 110HDi Exclusive Saloon - 1435kg
Again, according to the data, the Xantia is only 14cm shorter and and 1.5cm narrower...

Re: Diesel Engine for a CX?
Depressingly I have found the hard sad way that Xantiae do weigh in heavier than Cx's as I've been
doing just that the last month.
When it's happy, the Cx DTR2 engine is some piece of kit worth having and far simpler than
the Xm equivalent. And yes, the Xant 2.1 did find its way into an Xm body shell do why not
a lighter model like a Cx. Frankly, in a Cx the engine you really need is the GTi T2 anyway
unless a 60 degree v6 and auto adaptive box can find their way in and let's face it, the Xant
manages to house said engine; just not sure about the fore/aft space although width wouldn't
cause a problem.

Re: Diesel Engine for a CX?
When I trained on the spanners at Citroen back in the late 80s, I don't recall any porous block issues with CXs at all. I serviced loads and changed spheres and other bits and pieces but that was all.andmcit wrote:Totally agree about these being robust - the only weakness is the cooling system: I certainly never bought into

Now if you want bad engines, the first AX diesels were very poor.. porous too. We changed loads of engines in brand new ones.
