Thanks David. I did question my sanity doing all this to an old car, then I think of our main man Jon and the space/time/inclination/funds he's put into his BX. I've a long way to go before I get to his level[:o)]
Had an easy day today cleaning up the mounting faces of the head and the block as and investigating the clutch rattle. My money was on the trust bearing, turns out it was broken springs on the plate allowing the central splined bit to chatter about. Strange though as the clutch doesn't look too old and isn't a cheapo one as it's stamped Valeo. Odd.......

I admire your efforts to the BX cause this weekend there Dave, a truly magnificent display. Can I just report that only one week after putting my BX back together its broken again (another water problem!) [:(!] [V]

Keep digging chaps, for my part I now have a stop light that goes out and much sharper brakes (Thanks Vanny) Dave your garage is tidier than mine too, Jon what is the water problem?

Metal water pipe that runs along back of head let go in Portsmouth when I was queing up for the IOW Ferry! Water water everywhere!

Now you know why I put daylight between me and my refrigeration trade all those years ago; makes you feel real good when at 2am in the middle of summer, sitting on the roof of a multi story building covered in mozzies, not a breath of air (apart from the stale smokey crap coming from the night club ventilation), sweating like a pig from the heat generated from other units operating nearby, you've just re-loaded all your tools in the service van way down below at street level after about 5 trips and you're almost out on your feet and something that was overlooked in the process of the job suddenly "blows out" and you have to go down and tell the Nightclub owner, the reputed "Mr Big" of the local nightclub scene that you'll have to start all over again.[:(][xx(]
I think that's what they call "experience" but on the brighter side, it's amazing how precise it tends to make you after a while.[:D][8D]

I think Jon's BX is turning into me Grandads hammer. It's had 3 heads and 4 shafts, but it's still me Grandads hammer[:o)]

Looks like I'm "doin' a Dave" today.
Just had a phone call and we have to rip the parts needed out of a BX to send to the bottom part of Oz for an auto - manual conversion (ref: wieghts and measures thread) and there's a time factor involved.

Been there Alan, done that!
Ordered the parts earlier from GSF, I just need to try and get a clutch plate from my local factors tomorrow. Sounds like I'm being cheap but the cover still has grinding marks on it so is like brand new, only the springs on the plate have failed.

Why don't you drop me a line about getting a nice new Valeo 3 part clucth kit. You don't want to be taking it all apart again do you................?
