Thanks Marc, I will give it a go. There is very little information on the net about it, mainly that there is no cure, there are very few secondhand mirrors available either, two I think. I would appear that if I remove fuse 17 in fusebox 'C' it will disable it, but it will also disable the rear window defrost and probably the mirror adjustment. One poster had drilled a hole in it and fitted a screw to jam it in position, another one got his wife to keep it in the normal folded position by holding onto it while he locked the car.

If that fails, then it is also possible that a pin has broken - which tells the system when to stop moving the mirror. If this has broken it will cause the motor to carry on going until it cuts off due to resistance when it hits the car body.

In this case I think it's a replacement or deactivate the folding option Peter.

If you want them deactivated then it can be done only via Diagbox (so Colin may be able to do this for you if he is going to test your VCI)

Just looking back at the other issue, the windscreen, check your insurance cover, hopefully you it covered without it affecting your NCB, much cheaper and do not get fobbed off with a cheapo screen.

Oh and Marc may need to be online when i tackle the Eolys reset, unless you have recovery assistance in which case you can still get home :rofl2:

I might take the mirror off and have a look if I can find out how its fitted. The repeater lamp underneath looks as though it might prise out and reveal some screws - if I'm very lucky, unless anyone knows different.

The windscreen chip I have fixed using one of those resin injection things, can hardly see it now. Don't really want to claim on the insurance again, I had the windscreen on the Merc go in March, after having backed into a friends car in February - I still have my no claims in tact though, as long as I don't hit anything else this year.

I can't find any details for how to remove the mirror, but here's a generic illustration of what's in there. I think 'Nut 70' is accessed from inside once you've removed the door trim.
C5 mirror - PSA, fair use.

It's all detailed and illustrated in my post here:

Of course, trim needs to come off first as Robin mentioned above.

Oh dear, didn't know it was that complicated Marc. The 406 mirror you can remove from outside. Perhaps deleting the folding mirrors would be the easiest answer. First vehicle I have had with folding mirrors, so I don't think I will miss them. Thanks anyway.

Re the DPF fluid... if you're only doing low miles, then I wouldn't bother putting put 3l in, as that will good for 100k+! I would just stick a litre in, tell it you've filled it, and then if you've still got it in 25k or so, then put another litre in. You can get generic 'PAT' fluid on e-bay at not too disastrous costs - no idea if it mixes OK, but it says it does!!

Hi Richard - too late I'm afraid, I have ordered it. I went right through Ebay and found some at about 25 pounds in the same bottles as others were asking 30+ for. The only one I paid through the nose for was the one with the filler kit, + about 10. (sorry my pounds sign doesn't work).

The stuff I have ordered is the one specified for the car, 175 or something.

Peter, if you can be bothered you can remap your keyboard so the '£' is available on another key, or use the unicode cheat:

How to type unicode characters in Windows 10?

Press and hold down the Alt key.
Press the + (plus) key on the numeric keypad.
Type the hexidecimal unicode value.
Release the Alt key.

Unicode for £ is U+00A3

Or use your character map (I find that the simplest option)

Actually, Mike has made it even simpler - just remembered that beside the smily icon on the right of the reply box there are numerous symbols available, click on the third one with the € sign and the drop-down has a £ as the second symbol - ignore all that crap above :)

Thanks for that information Steve, I just tried it and it works! Problem is my memory doesn't so will probably have to find this post and refer to it each time I need it. :?

Why have my keys changed? I have to press " for @ and vice versa, pounds gives me #.

Windows update has probably set your keyboard to US or something... what version of Windows are you using?

More likely the language was setup as US to start with or an US keyboard is being used. Windows update will not change the language settings. :)
