That looks to me a bit like a false widow Matt. They're getting more and more common in the UK as a result of climate change...
They are as the Earth is described in the updated Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy: 'mostly harmless'
Happily, in the UK we have no dangerous ones...
I will now reveal that I absolutely love all spiders, despite one once putting me in hospital whilst living in the land were 9 out of ten things that walk, swim, fly or crawl are out to get you in a multitude of nasty ways...

And the only reason the tenth one ISN'T out to get you is because it hasn't HEARD of you!
In Sir Terry Pratchetts' book "The Last Continent" Death (for valid reasons) goes into his Library and said "I want a book about the dangerous creatures of Fourecks..." and gets buried under an avalanche of encyclopaedia. Once Albert has dug him out Death stands up, brushes himself down, and says "Possibly it would be simpler if I asked for a list of the harmless creatures of the aforesaid continent?". Eventually a sheet of paper appears out of the gloom, which Death catches, reads, turns over (in case there is anything written on the other side), and hands it to Albert to read. "Some of the sheep".

Elsewhere in the same book Rincewind makes a drunken bet that he can shear sheep faster than the best sheep shearer in town. After his first attempt (which was rather unusual) there was a commotion from the sheep pen;
'The fence shattered. A ram stood in the gap, shaking its head to dislodge bits of post from its horns. Steam rose from its nostrils. Most of the things Rincewind had associated with sheep, apart from the gravy and mint sauce, had to do with...sheepishness. But this was a ram, and the word association was suddenly...RAMPAGE.'.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Yes that's what the Google results were suggesting (and a quick but slightly alarming "can bite --> can lead to septicemia --> can lead to death" summary too!)CitroJim wrote: 07 Sep 2025, 17:02 That looks to me a bit like a false widow Matt. Spiders aren't deadly in the UK, but roofers are aware of 'false widow' spiders, they have a nasty bite that can make, let's say your leg swell upto elephant size, please keep this info away from the ladies... There normally found near dry wood.

Old-school diagnostics...
I've not used this one in ages and I know of old it sulks if it's not regularly used...
I had to dismantle it and clean all the edge-connectors before it decided to play nicely...
The reason I've dug it out from deep storage may be revealed later this week

Ever seen this many ducks on your phone?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
