That's a cracking picture on so many levels Steve
What's the context?

No idea, lifted from another site with no description but it is such a powerful photo it can't be ignored.
Also far better in B&W than in colour, far more focused and dramatic.

Oh gosh yes, absolutelymyglaren wrote: 15 Jul 2025, 17:40 Also far better in B&W than in colour, far more focused and dramatic.
I have a lot of black and white photos of Autumn now... None quite as powerful and dramatic as that one Steve although I'm working on it
Black and white is very much my preferred medium; I really only use colour for quick snaps on my phone and my running and cycling gigs these days...
It's a fact that 99.9% of photos I take using my DSLR are of no great interest to me once I've taken them, checked they are technically and aesthetically OK, not in any way offensive, processed and uploaded into albums. I hardly ever look at them again...
Those I take on my film cameras and home-processed from start to finish are a different matter altogether. They are almost always personally significant and get looked at very often and are deeply treasured. The negatives are kept in archival quality storage and the final digital images are securely backed up.
I was thinking of upgrading my DSLR and one lens (the one I use mostly for race photography) to something rather more special for my birthday but to be honest, I'd be much better treating myself to a real top-end film camera and some matching top-spec. lenses... At least I'll get the benefit of it. The ones who would benefit most from me upgrading my digital camera kit are those who I do gigs for and they don't pay me. I don't think any of those audiences would really appreciate it anyway...

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Give me colour everytime, without it this picture would look like a tub of weeds!!
In general I do not like B&W because it can never be reality, even life down the mines in the 1800's had some colour! My viewing time is always about watching reality whether it be sport on TV or images that I use as reminders, colour is the prime trigger for my memory and therefore for my recall. I do watch the occasional film but never B&W ones because they just aren't real and I'm not arty!!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Following my day out on Wednesday, as yet no offers of where I went?, I ran into a large nail on the A406 coming home. That resulted in having to drive 200m on completely flat rear tyre before I could bump it up onto the pavement for a tyre change. My passengers (SWMBO and mate of the same name!) stood behind the car on the narrow pavement while I installed the spacesaver and then gently brought us home.
That was very bad timing as I was due to take Jim down to Dorset yesterday for us to investigate Peter's C5 non starting issue with Jim's diagbox. So knowing that I would not be able to sort the Suby ready for my 5am departure, I arranged to drive up to Jim's in the MX3 and then we would head to Dorset in his C3 Picasso (Polly!)
I got up at 4.15 and after ablutions headed out to load the bits from the Suby into the MX3 and set off at about 4.45. Sadly it was not to be, 3 miles from home the temperature guage rose to the red where it sat and I decided to turn round and head back home, SWMBO was still asleep of course so I wrote her a note and 'stole' her Celerio to drive to Jim's. We had discussed that option the night before so not too bad! It just meant I needed to get home in the evening by 6.15 for her to go out on a planned visit. in order to avoid overcorrupting this thread I'll pick this up on the DIY Motoring thread in a while!!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Beyond the ship's cargo, there is what looks like the Spinnaker tower in Portsmouth
The next photo, is that the Fawley refinery ?
Have you been to Beaulieu motor museum or Isle of Wight ?

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I like your thinking Paul as refinery is a good thought, sadly nowhere near Portsmouth though, another clue; the last picture is taken in London!
