All very valid points that should be put before a suitable ombudsman. There must be many who have similar difficulties with phones.

But £300~£1,000 for a phone? My most recent one was £120.

Yes, I was talking iPhone there Steve and factoring in the oldest used model that still has IOS support for another year or so, but can go up to £1200 and over for a new one. But I suspect the same applies to Android phones with limited support life for their operating systems and the banking apps. I suspect there may be some sort of collusion going on there hiding behind the 'security' line.

Fact is, we live in the 21st century and it's great to embrace all the modern tech. that makes our lives so easy - I love it, all of it and I speak as someone not far off his old-age pension...

Life in the mid -2020s is great :D I love nostalgia but would not want to live in the past... The present and future is just too good -
Thank $DEITY there's still some sense left in the world. I couldn't agree with you more Jim.
The fact is that if I look back to my childhood in the 70s and 80s, when things are compared like for like....it was sh1te back then.

Any normal pile of gravel would have a few weeds growing out of it and look a bit unkempt by now. I reckon it's fake gravel. I reckon we're being misled !

This thread has fallen into the superseded by events category, simply because it is now an inevitable part of today's world. It is an everyday/hour/minute/second occurrence. No more evidence is needed it is clear and present.
Still, this literally bizarre example, can tell an interesting tale from the thread of events point of view.

Let's start off with "Feeling Groovy". Yes this pair did it called it the 59th Street Bridge Song.
Now doing the Independent Jumbo General Knowledge Crossword on line, for Sat Aug 31st...
...there was a clue "(7,7) American 1960's group who had hits with "Feelin' Groovy", ..., ..."
Well that was this lot covering the S&G song
Bit of discussion at Chez Falcon, didn't realise Harpers Bizarre had covered the tune, or indeed that Harpers Bizarre were a thing. I knew the name but thought it was a magazine a shop or a catalogue. Turns out the different spelling "Harper's Bazaar" is indeed an American monthly women's fashion magazine. It was first published in New York City on November 2, 1867, as the weekly Harper's Bazar."

Big Brother at work through the vehicle of "the smart phone" then for the first time ever today puts up in your face links to "Harper's Bazaar" for clicking or swiping or whatever you do with those things! Slightly different from genuine "familiarity phenomenon". Deliberate product placement as a result of data harvesting.

If nothing else from today's dalliance into this thread, you may be able to assess whether Harpers Bizarre the group did a decent cover of the S&G classic :-D

Saw Simon and Garfunkel when I visited my daughter in Berlin, they were doing a show at the Olympic Stadium, thousands of people flashing their ciggy lighters in the dark. :)

Looks as though Google have crippled the 'Timeline'.
Had a message to say it was being shut down on browsers next year and would be available on phones (it was anyway)
Today it is off on my browser (Google Chromium) and it doesn't work on the phone either.

I'm using the 'Web' browser. Really. Used to be called 'Epiphany' while being developed then changed to Web. Inspired.
It uses DDG for searches by default and when I did a search then the above popped up. I imagine it will be available for Winders.

Yes Steve I know about that but I'm still happy with Brave browser and DDG search engine, so I haven't tried the DDG browser :)
