Are PSA doing Something Right!
Thanks Marc!GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑22 Aug 2019, 09:40 That was back in 2017 Neil! They've now bought them of course.
OOps first mistake of the day. I've been quoting Autocar a lot recently so I thought I would give them a rest and the BBC article cropped up never even checked the date asumed it was the same Story!
PSA are indeed currently turning a decent profit and a decent margin as reported by autocar today.

Yes, the new SUV ranges are surprisingly popular - versions of the C3, C4 and C5 , plus all the DS implementations and of course the Peugeot range of SUVs. Much nicer designs, higher up driving position and of course, being higher up from the road has to be good news for those on salty UK roads.
All this flying in the face of the latest from MPs saying we should ditch our cars! I'd love for them to try a local bus - no trains either where we are. The usual selfish city attitudes prevailing and lauding it on the rest of us.

You can imagine what I suggest they can go and do to themselves.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑22 Aug 2019, 10:04

I'd happily use public transport if it were feasible. It's really not, anywhere but major cities.

I have to say, I really find driving the Xsara Picasso, with it's higher driving position and big airy cabin *much* nicer than the newer, faster, more economical and quieter Skoda Octavia. I'd be taking the Picasso to France next week if I could get cheaper breakdown cover for it - £80 for temp cover for 10 days. Skoda and Kawasaki are already on one policy that costs me £18 per month for Euro cover, I'm not shelling out another £80GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑22 Aug 2019, 10:04 Yes, the new SUV ranges are surprisingly popular - versions of the C3, C4 and C5 , plus all the DS implementations and of course the Peugeot range of SUVs. Well, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen recently using a low cost airline to fly (with their children) to Scotland;

However, this is very unusual. Could you imagine what would happen if, for example, the Prime Minister or the Leader of the Opposition tried to regularly use public transport? They might get away with it, but it would be an enormous nightmare for the Security Services.
I cannot (for work) use public transport. I am a Field Service Engineer. I have no idea what I will be doing from day to day. Last Sunday I was in Brighton, Poole, and Windsor. Today I was in Hemel Hempstead and then Reading, tomorrow I will be in Carterton and Fleet (and maybe elsewhere), but I have no idea after then. Because of this I cannot use public transport.

Wow, that's so different and revolutionary.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

I bet VW paid someone like Saatchi & Saatchi £5million to come up with that!!

Snippet on the news about Wright buses, not the old service from Newcastle to the Keswick, but the New Routemaster builders from Northern Ireland. Seems like they are in "cash-flow" difficulties, and a prospective investor has just pulled out.
I would have thought it would be boom-time for Busmakers. City's all over the world wanting to get rid of the congestion of private cars.

"Wrightbus confirmed in July that it was seeking an investor or buyer as it faces cash flow problems.
Management apologised to staff, saying the news had been "leaked" to the media. Latest accounts show Wrightbus made a pre-tax profit of about £5m on turnover of more than £181m in 2017.
But its financial situation has deteriorated since then. It made two rounds of redundancies last year with 95 jobs going in February and June - which it said reflected continued low levels of demand for new buses in the UK market.

At over a quarter of a million quid each and few customers Neil it's a dodgy business unless the state subsidises the passengers and offers free rides.
I note there's some, maybe, good news for some of the Ford car workers in Bridgend today.

I'm guessing you mean the BBC journalism Marc
"Bridgend site set to produce Land Rover Defender-inspired 4x4 from Ineos" hold the front page!
"The exact location is around the Ford site but not on it and the US car manufacturer is not linked with the move."
