Underside holes are now filled in, I just need (wish) to dress the welds back

Thanks Jim, tbh I think I surprised myself how it finished up. I even ran a line of chemical metal rolled out into a thin sausage to simulate the seam sealer bead, well I am a model maker !

While we're talking welding, I'm getting terrible trouble with my most recent welding rusting, as circled on the pix (OS B Pillar of my 405)

I've put it down to possibly it not being warm enough when I sprayed and potential trapped moisture, it was done mid Nov' last year, but any other suggestions?

For the moment I'm T-Cutting back the corrosion as it appears, and then coating it in Vaseline, til the weather improves at which point I'm gonna have the paint off, apply a tiny skim of filler and re-paint.

Did you use weld-thru primer ?

Depending on the finish I would be tempted to drill into that area and flood the area with a rust eater like Deox-C , then inject a wax preventative like Dynax S50 (wipe clean on the outside, seam sealer then over-paint with high content zinc and top coat.

Thanks Sticky, yes, I used XC-90, I was impressed with it, I'd read about Spatter & Fumes when using it, so I welded with a mask and got very little spatter; it welds really well !

No need to drill in my case, as there's access to the rear of the pillar (the recess for the Seat Belt Inertia Reel is behind it) handy! I'll use my Kurust and spray some more Dinitrol in there afterwards too.

...talking of which, little tip, I found that 0.9mm steel readily accepts a standard Grease nipple; I've got one in the bottom of the leading edge of my NSR Wheelarch now having rebuilt it in the course of doing the end of the Cill; (5mm Drill IIRC). Dirt cheap too.

I remember years ago you could get body sealer/caulking that could be placed between two panels and could also be welded through. Not sure if it is still available.

It is, designed for spot welding however.

thanks again, my searches on this have all come up with weld through primers / cold galvanizing paints/sprays; much the same as the XC-90 I'm already using.

I was surprised to realise a few months back, that there is a version of spot welding (different from Plug Welding) possible with a MIG, with good penetration possible. Clarke make a Spot Welding Shroud to fit some Torches (not mine). Its not essential tho', and I can't help thinking that a plastic Spot Weld shroud would surely have a very short life-span anyway.

When I get round to sorting it properly I'll add some more pix. I hope the summer's not as hot as the winter's been wet, else I'll be mighty upset (for the second year in a row).

All done now, strut is back on, just the wing to re-attach (to the guide marks I made)

Lower part of the inner wing came out OK I think with no visible extra seams on show.

One more with the bits fitted back.

OCD got me .....so I painted the spring and cleaned up the spring cups and strut as well as repainting the whole inner wing with fresh B'Hlmr underseal.

CDO is probably a good thing under there Mr SF. CDO is the same as OCD, just in the correct order.
