That is really good going John! Nice mild weather as well. You could have been freezing any other year.
The auto will be a fine drive. Hard to buy proper auto box cars now, less it is prestige stuff.

Enjoy Taunton!
Gosh, If I was to come down (which I won't be unfortunately) we could have had a mini-meet!
Are you going to take the new X7 to Taunton?

Re: new addition to fleet
thanks all
went back this morning, idled her for another 30 mins then drove the 100m up the lane and back.. gave her some power this time.. when back at garage I held revs at 4000 for a while.. cant find anything wrong as yet..
the temp gauge didn't even register in the 30 mins of idle, after the short drive was showing 4 / 5 bars.. slight concern was that the upper rad hose and rad were pretty cold despite this? .. not finding any air, heater works fine.. dunno.. think I need a longer test now..
so, I think it is time to do some paperwork and take her out properly this evening..
if she carries on behaving, then yes Jim, I think I will attempt the Somerset trip on Xmas day.. but I need to drive her as much as possible between now and then really..

Re: new addition to fleet
thanks Alasdair
just reading the user manual.. this car is quite a bit of kit .. ! bit like 'Knightrider' , sort of
fingers crossed for some good motoring
it even came with a free cd, U2 1990-2000, which is a nice touch although I prefer their earlier stuff lol..
Maybe somewhere there is a hard disc in her too, with some other music on!
Chaps, when I put the Diagbox on the car soon after it arrived, it was a different interface to the lexia blue / yellow screens for the old C5.. was all good really..no more entering VINs or unplugging the interface.. just all seemed to happen automatically..
I couldn't see easily how to access live data though? I am sure its very simple..
also, there was a warning in the banner saying this software will stop working 2 months ago or something.. but it seemed to work fine..

Re: new addition to fleet
thanks
tonight was a mod to the fuel pipe union and a longer legal drive to the nearest garage.. its all lanes and tight corners and was taking it very easy.. drove fine...
the journey was about 5 miles return..was a bit scary to see 22mpg often, escpecially as I was 'doing a Peter'
at garage I noticed the rad didn't seem to be warm at all.. the oil and water temps were about 7 bars each.. - which I guess is normal running temp.
also, the two main pipes into the autobox heat exchanger.. one was warm and one cold (the warm one has the broken small (now blocked) pipe coming from it)
when back home the rad and top hose felt warm at last.. seemed strange to take that long..
but no change with the autobox pipes..
if the gauges read fine, coolant level is fine and the rad is all warm... then I guess the autobox is the only other concern.. if it did overheat, I am sure the car would be quick to tell me..? does the 4hp20 for example know its temperature.. will diagnostics tell me the gearbox temps..

Re: new addition to fleet
I think my 4hp20's sat about 90 deg on their gauge. Quite sure you will be able to get temps on diagnostic.
Most autoboxes actually need temps monitored for oil changes (hot). Big auto's through town on a cold engine are shockingly low on mpg.
Even diesels. My Vel petrol did 17mpg in town.
I think your autobox is the next improved version of my old Vel Satis. Mine was 5 speed Aisin ( 3309 fluid) and yours is the 6 speed evolution of that?
If your engine is very slow to warm and the auto box has any reliance or shared coolant, then might that be having effect? I know the petrol engine heats much quicker.

Re: new addition to fleet
thanks Lexi.. to be sure I didn't expect amazing mpg from this car, for some odd reason I thought it may compare to my 110 hdi manual but now I am not sure why
I wanted more power and comfort and buttons I didn't understand
no matter.. will have more of an idea when I get on a longer journey and change to L per 100 km as that's what my 110 c5 is these days..
but in all honesty I am just being a bit nervy about the engine and gearbox.. if it was a 110 I could grab a spare of either for some peanuts and carry on as normal.. but its a bit ...new
I will put her through as many paces as I can tomorrow, take no prisoners, and keep an eye on anything I can. if she survives this she is drinking cider on Friday! (in Somerset) albeit on the journey alongside a passenger scouring a laptop
(and using the cup holder to hold cider)

Re: new addition to fleet
Yes, the 4HP20 knows its temperature John and will take action with special maps to bring it down if it feels it's too high..
I'm sure. yours being a later generation, will do similar...

Re: new addition to fleet
my attention is now firmly focused on ..Aisin problems and that gearbox - if it cools, valve blocks, 30K oil changes (or lack of), missing coolant distribution pipes, and running out of drive half way up a hill .. grrr

will try and take her out for an hour later, circling my lock up or something
confidence is definitely low this morning..
