Driving Xantia in snow

to late for that the evidence is on the forum now.

should have just got on with it. mind you there might be some oposition if others policie prices increase this year through no fault of there own..lol.

thats why I fetched the new prices assumed you would be going through the insurance buying new from beevers often means the differtence between a right off and a repair as other panel suppliers are very expensive.

whats the engine like milage etc how much M.o.T is left, Lurchy? surely its worth saving her even if it takes a bit of time getting the pennies together.

she is taxed untill end of feb mot till september, 140 odd thousand, engine is lovely (maybe a bit slow to fire in the mornings but i think thats down to old glow plugs) gearbox is lovely as well, she needs new rear spheres at some point as the back ride is very solid and new clutch and all the work doing,

problem is i've got no room to do her up so i think i'll end up either putting her on ebay as spares or repair or going down the insurance route,

and then never letting my dad drive a car of mine again,

I'd strip the car and get an XM estate for towing the caravan

Yep, munching away at the undersides of all our beloved Citroens!!
And folk wonder why subframes sills, floorpans and spheres look like
they've been shotblasted and sprayed with seawater and nothing later
undoes without shearing or breaking.

You're better of staying at home - not for your safety, but that of the car's!!

Whats the latest on this??

Ive GOT EVERYTHING here except the Air Con rad, no, infact I THINK Ive got one of those too.....

well i've decided to ring insurance as cant really afford to repair it, ok i said i was driving and hit said post in ice etc (my insurance shouldn't go up cause i got protected no claims)

they didn't even send anyone down as the insurance is really busy, and i gave them the list of what was wrong with it they fast tracked it and wrote it off, it is getting picked up wednesday, so looks like ebay here i come for a new car,

shame it is going like this but i really didn't have room or time or patentice for it,

thats a shame Lurchy good engine, box and reletively low miles at only 140,000.

hope your buying another xantia diesel.

I personally would have approached a little back street bodyshop and asked what the cost would have been to repair her, these Insurance companies use big brand name bodyshops that are in cahoots with the insurance companies to get as much money as possible out of the claim.

what is an uneconimical repair to them is another mans bread and butter.

i will defo have another xantia at some point altho maybe next time an activia,

personally as i need to tow the caravan and the xantia hated doing it, i was thinking along the lines of a frontera or trooper or disco, the xantia's brakes didn't like working with the van behind it and the clutch liked it even less,

maybe it is just because i like rwd or 4wd for towing, dunno what it is about fwd but it just dosent feel right towing anything bigger than a box trailer,

maybe time to buy the lpg volvo off my uncle to tow with

Blimey! Avoid the Frontera, what Ive heard, the worst 4 x 4 x far..

Disco pretty good, Toyota land cruiser MUCH MUCH better..

Or the Nissan Pathfinder or what ever body it has..

Im NO 4x4 expert by Far, its only what Ive read, but most complained about the Vauxhall..

That's odd. I used to tow a 14 footer with a 1.9TD and I found it a great towcar with none of the problems you describe

In fact it was excellent in all departments...

I've also used it to tow a car transporter trailer laden with a Nissan 200SX with no worries as well...

I never did tow anything weighty when I had my 2.1TD but would have expected it to have been even better.

Friend of mine recently bought a 4 x 4. His choice was dictated a bit by the weight of caravan he was intending to tow with it.

Ive towed a Transporter trailer, with an XM V6 on the back, WITH a 12v V6 auto XM..

Felt wonderfull!!

Towed a few Xantias with a Xantia... never had a problem there either..

Well, shame to say, but we win some we loose some! I HAD all the parts here to fix it too..
