Taken with an ordinary but now fairly elderly smartphone Alec... I always run with what I call my 'Burner Phone'*. An old Samsung that's now getting on a bit. If it gets damaged then it's no big loss. It already has a cracked screen and has been for several baths and showers. It is almost indestructible :D

* A term used to describe an essentially disposable Pay as You Go 'phone used by criminals of various sorts, especially drug dealers. Popularised in the BBC Drama 'Line of Duty'...

My Burner is actually on a contract and easily traceable to me!

A harbinger of spring no less... Bring it on :)

It's been so mild here I got a bit done in the garden this morning and I noticed one of my roses is already looking quite lively, as is my rhubarb!

The lull before the storm Jim
As the first day after the equinox if you ignore the Roman and Gregorian calendars it's new years day. :)

Oh yes, despite global warming and a boiling planet I know we are still in for some proper winter weather yet... Never known such a warm and mild run-up to Christmas...

I wonder if we'll see snow this Winter?

POTD Astronomy Club

OK, thought I'd share these here.

Noticed last night that the moon was close to Jupiter in the sky (you'll probably see it tonight too if you get some clear sky).

So here's a not particularly impressive (overexposed) shot of the moon with a tiny dot in the sky above (you'll probably have to click on the photo to enlarge it to even see the dot - probably no hope on a phone screen):
AWW_0237.jpg
But wait - what if I zoom right on the little dot, and crop away a lot of that blackness?
AWW_0237-2.jpg
Turns out the original little tiny dot is in fact Jupiter, and by zooming in we can see 4 of it's very many moons shining like tiny jewels!

If you jumped in your car and put your foot down and drove to Jupiter at 70mph, it'd take you somewhere over 230,000 days to get there - assuming Jupiter was quite close to the Earth and not at its furthest point. Those planning to do the journey in an electric car might want to do some intensive planning for such a journey

And here's a monochrome Christmas one...

From my run this morning... I fell through a wormhole in the space-time continuium and briefly ended up in in 1955 where everything was in black and white. Colour had yet to be invented...

Interesting to see a car there from 60 years into the future...

Regnbåge.
(Regnbåge)
Uppe ovanför gator och hus
Regnbågen klättrar högt (Rainbow)
Alla kan se det leende
(Regnbåge) Över himlen

Måla hela världen med en regnbåge

(Regnbåge)
Överallt i bäckar och floder
Lyser i sjöarna (Rainbow)
Se regnbågens färger
(Rainbow) När morgonen bryter på

Måla hela världen med en regnbåge

:)

Just back from my first run of the morning :D

Got this lovely moonscape...

It's a truly magical morning out there...

I'll be at parkrun later this morning, firstly running the course check and then timekeeping the special Christmas Day event. We also do a special on New Year's Day. I'll be timekeeping that one too... And celebrating my 250th parkrun volunteer milestone...
