Anyway, no swans there and it is too far to walk even if there were.
No Sunday afternoon pleasure motoring Steve? The Sunday 26th November 2023 POTD Swan Challenge doesnt have to be done on Shanks's pony. :-D

A complete washout as far as photographing the cosmos goes this evening, if anyone posts photographs of the Aurora borealis or indeed the moon tonight from Northumberland they are faking it! :-D

Not so the Swans. Genuine Falcon originals from Killingworth Lake, just round the corner from WB and Sons and a certain yellow Triumph Spitfire.

Yes, a real shame as there was a red alert for an aurora over the UK last evening following the large CME a few days ago...

What's with all your anaemic looking albino swans? Here's what a real swan looks like!

We have some of those here in the UK Alec... Quite a flock down in Dawlish in Devon...

There's lots of pubs in the UK called 'The Black Swan' so I guess they've been known about for many years in the UK...

Amazing what the tech in your pocket can do!! This was strong enough here this evening to see by eye, despite the almost full moon. Bloody freezing though.
Just wow! Fantastic Richard! I have seen the Southern Aurora in Australia - from our back porch when we lived in Canberra (in the 1980s). I now live 750km further North, but my son, who now lives near Canberra, has reported seeing it earlier this year.

Re. the full moon - cloudy here too - the moon is playing hide and seek among the clouds.

Keep them coming Alec, welcome addition to night-time photography club on POTD.

Here's one from NASA via wiki. Came up on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs in relation to the book choice of Dr Nicola Fox Head of Science at NASA.
Dr Nicky Fox is only the second woman to hold the post of Head of Science at NASA since the agency was founded in 1958. She has responsibility for around a hundred missions which are investigating the mysteries of outer space. These missions are tackling questions such as how do hurricanes form and are we alone in the universe.

Nicky was born in Hitchin in Hertfordshire
The book she chose is called "The Pale Blue Dot A vision of Human Future in Space" by Carl Sagan.

This is the pale blue dot

Tan Hill on another day...
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 29 Nov 2021, 22:55 Tan Hill Inn in the news today. Cut off for 3 days, nice picturesque snowy scenes, those "marooned" seemed to survive the 3 day lock in pretty well!

So couple of pics from the FCF archives, of Tan Hill, no snow though, so dont make the snow good! thread.
