Allegedly 'plane tyres are filled with some noble gas (not sure which) as ordinary air will expand so much with the heat of landing and cause a blowout...

Or is that just a legend? A lie spread by Facebook?

I remember hearing (or reading somewhere) that the tyres on Concord has ball bearings of a soft metal embedded into the compound. This was (supposedly) in order to turn a blow-out situation into a tyre deflation instead (allowing the pilot to retain more control), as the metal would melt and allow pressure to escape gradually, not explosively. I am not sure if this was true, or another myth.
