Are you guilty of being involved Alistair :?:

I’ll have to sort mine on the Xantia as the top loop has broken off - I don’t think it can disappear down the tube though ….yet 8-[

I am that dipstick abuser :) ....two diameters of hose/tube over each other if I recall correctly, one to seal, one to limit insertion depth/grip.

I fished one out from down a tube in an AX yesterday.....had to modify/destroy a pen to make a little "hook" :)

Stickyfinger wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 10:44 That said, calling it a dipstick hole rather than a dipstick tube is a bit of a dipstick thing to say, thus betrays me as the dipstick who made the dipstick fix to this dipstick
In defence of the dipstick's description of the Dipstick Hole, I'd say you were bob on correct, as having it have a hole is rather key to what makes it a tube (rather than a rod) ! And, if you'd stuck the dipstick into anything other than the dipstick tube's dipstick hole, well, you'd have missed! :rofl2:

Skull wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 10:26 I can't see much to be concerned about Jim mine is missing the intake temperature control so maybe the vacumn control hose needs a connector clip :?:
That's it Gary! The hose to the air intake temperature control flap vacuum actuator had fallen off the spigot on the airbox. Now fixed ;)

Yesterday I enjoyed quite a good run in a country park not far from the old Rootes/PSA factory in Ryton :D

I only planned to run a Half Marathon but that didn't happen!

My plan was to run this distance at the next Big Bear event in a couple of weeks. I'm now well into my training plan to see me run at least one Ultra Marathon this year :D

I'm now out for a short run to keep my ongoing running streak and Run Every Day in January challenge alive :)

Done it! I have ran every day in January to complete the RED (Run Every Day in January) Challenge :-D
strava234997984980252364.png
The last few days were a bit sketchy and difficult as I went down with a dose of the lurgy on Wednesday and was quite poorly  Due to my underlying ME even a minor cold will lay me low and make me feel rotten for a few days. I kept the streak going by slowly running the minimum distance to count - 1 mile.

I'm now almost recovered :)

I'm not stopping as tomorrow I continue toward my next challenge to keep my current run streak going as long as I can and beat my previous best 208 days...

It was lovely this morning to run under a spectacular near-full (actually a waxing gibbous) moon with Jupiter shining brightly below it

The perfect start to what promises to be a very fine day!

And  again :-D Love it!

Yesterday, during my parkrun activities, I was compared to Michael Rosen. I was rather highly honoured :-D

And this was me busy delivering the pre-run briefing ahead of a very successful event enjoyed by nearly 400 participants :-D

Nothing to report really, life has been cracking on in a happy, contented sort of way as it does and mostly involved, as usual, in things well off-topic for this forum. Not only off-topic but I suspect of absolutely no interest to the vast majority anyway... Truth is, these days automotive topics are a very small aspect of my busy and active life.

That said. I gave Bluebell a warming run yesterday and found she had a flat battery. A quick charge on my big 20A regulated charger soon sorted that :D I checked she's charging normally.

It's just lack of use I believe, due to the car being on SORN so not drivable on the open road. A 15 minute warmup run every couple of weeks is not really good to maintain a battery without help. From now on I'll keep my little Lidl maintenance charger connecetd so it can keep the battery healthy...

Apart from that she's running fine, as are my other two. My posh van had a run to High Wycombe last week - A horrendous drive in poor weather and very busy traffic, especially around Aylesbury. I needed to get my GF to hospital for 0730... We succeeded, just, despite setting off a lot later than I was comfortable with. Only for her or my kids would I do such a drive. Must be love

She was told her aftercare would be at Amersham hospital but happily it's now at Stoke Mandeville... I can drive there with my eyes closed and know the hospital only too well... That's good. I did not really fancy a number of drives to Amersham...

Sunday saw us host Junior parkrun in the most atrocious weather. Heavy rain turning to snow and a cold arctic wind. We still had 73 hardy and tough children run despite all...

All the kit got soaked and it took me a large part of yesterday to get it dried out and the items damaged beyond salvation replaced...

A small number of finish tokens lost their lives after going for a swim and then drowning in the token collection pot which, over the course of the event, filled with rainwater...
These won't scan any more!!!
These won't scan any more!!!
Ohh, what fun we have :D After the event we all trooped off to Costa to recover, dry out and generally warm up. Hot chocolate is well recommended for this task ;)
